today, i wove the constellations back together.

they glowed after i finished,
glad that i'd come back to them
despite the fact that i was the reason
their once great, twinkling lights had diminished.

i thought i'd let you know.
i thought i'd let you know just so you'd see
how far i'm willing to go
to erase the mistakes of that fool.

that selfish, selfish fool that was past me.

you know, when we were still together
( and you hadn't yet broken me and i was still blind to your actions )
one time i was sifting through the fabric of the universe and thought

'his mask is like my night sky;
two black stars against an ivory midnight,
and an onyx crescent moon strung high.'

you even had those light freckles,
— the ones that look like the constellations i'd put together today —
and it was like the mask was your earth's atmosphere
and your face
( although i hate it now, for it brings too many bad memories with it )
was the galaxies beyond, holding within it
a multitude of colourful stars, just waiting to be drawn together
by the minds of men.

but oh, how wrong i was
because you couldn't be farther from it.
you simply couldn't be farther from it, because
the galaxy is pure and you are anything but it.

you are not the galaxy and your mask is not the atmosphere that hides the stars.
your face is not the galaxy and your mask is not the night sky.

you are not the galaxy for your lips only spew white lies.
you are not the galaxy because by your hand far too many have died.

you are not the galaxy and your mask is not the night sky
because both are meant to be untouched silks woven by me and me only
and you carry the burden of death and bloodshed and everything that i
despise.

( but i still love you. )
here i am, a selfish person
a selfish fool
still loving you.

and therein lies the problem.
