12th August,1991

Isabella Gaunt woke up early in the morning and found herself sitting on the window sill staring at the sky as the golden sun brightened up the world as it raised itself into the sky.

"Izzy? Why are you up so early?"

The girl turned and smiled softly at the silhouette of her father as he leaned against the doorframe, staring straight into her grey-green eyes.

"Just thinking."

Tom raised an eyebrow at his daughter. A silent question. He walked across the large elegant bedroom and sat beside her daughter on the window sill and quietly watched as the sun rose higher and higher in the sky while he waited for Isabella to tell him her thoughts.

Isabella caved and sighed as she pressed her hand onto the window of the manor.
"I was thinking how different life would been if mum hadn't died. Maybe we wouldn't have had to change our last names, maybe you wouldn't have to create that spell that alters your face whenever you go into the ministry. Maybe we wouldn't have to hide our identities from the world."

Tom's eyes softened drastically. He and she both knew what lead them to that train of inner thoughts. Today was the day. The day that Amara passed. The day that Tom lost the one girl he loved and wanted to spend the rest of his immortal life with. The pain of even thinking about the fact that she was gone tore a hole in his heart, but he kept it in and gave his daughter a soft smile.

"I know it's hard. I've told you so much about your mother, how brave she was and how compassionate, kind and so many more things I could never be. I know you never had the chance to meet her and you have no idea how much I wish you could but we can't change what has happened."

Isabella turned her head and immediately felt the guilt building up in her. She knew how hard it was for him to talk about her mum and why she was gone. She knew that he blamed himself for her mother's death. So she scooted closer to her father and gently laid her head on his shoulder.

"Father, none of that was your fault. Knowing how much you cared for her and how much she changed your life is enough. You can't blame yourself for her death. You've suffered enough."

Tom couldn't help the grin that made it's way onto his face. He kissed his daughter on the forehead before getting up.

"Well I have to get to the ministry in a bit. Narcissa is coming over to watch you. Get dressed and go downstairs for breakfast later okay?"

Isabella immediately perked up with a spark in her eyes. The same spark that would fill Amara's eyes whenever someone brought up her favorite book, subject or anything she was passionate about. Tom remembered the time when they just graduated Hogwarts and after some constant begging from Amara, reluctantly took her to her favourite Shakespeare play "Othello". The whole time her eyes shined like emeralds as she drank up the costumes, sets and all the things muggles were able to do without magic. Tom found himself barely paying attention to the play and instead looking at Amara's eyes and how they seemed to be made of pure light as she watched the actors on stage. How her pupils would dilate when she saw her favourite parts performed on stage. How her grey-green eyes seemed to darken whenever she was upset at what the characters were doing. How her eyes seemed to shine with tears towards the end of the tragedy play. Tom was amazed at all the emotion he could read from just her eyes, he would happily look into those eyes for the rest of his life. Except he couldn't. Because she was gone. The reality of it hit him again like a ton of bricks and his fists clenched at the pain that was seeping back to his system.

Isabella noticed how her father had gone quiet and stood still as a haze seemed to cloud his eyes. The young girl didn't know what he was thinking of but all she knew was that he was in pain. And that was all she needed to know to get up and wrap her father into a tight embrace. The hug snapped Tom out of his transe as he wrapped his arms around his daughter's small form. Suddenly he remembered why he was there. Why he was fighting the resistance. Why he wasn't giving up on his plans. Why he stayed afloat all these years. For Isabella. His Isabella. Their Isabella. He knew that if he was gone, the world would find out about her. Everyone would be after her. Even through she had done nothing wrong. Even though she was just a girl. They would tear her to pieces, and Tom was never going to let that happen.

"Alright, darling. I have to go into the ministry soon and before you ask yes I'll be careful I promise. Narcissa will be over soon with Draco to watch you for the day."

Isabella nodded and smiled up at her father before leaning up and pressing a kiss on his cheek. "See you soon father."

Tom looked at his daughter once more before he flourished his wand. His hair faded into a chestnut brown, his dark black coffee eyes swirled with cerulean before they settled into an icy blue and his ivory skin darkened into a soft tan. It was a very useful spell. He did not look like the dark lord that reeked havoc on the world at all. Tom, or now, Thomas Rosier picked up his briefcase and headed to the floo.

Isabella was sat in one of the comfortable dark green armchairs that were placed in the library with a big leather-bound book. To the un observant eye Isabella looked as if she was simply reading one of the many books in their manor and while that was usually true that was not what the girl was doing. The black haired girl flipped to another page that was, like all the other pages, filled with pictures taken of her father and her mother together. In this one, Tom was scowling with a small slice of cake on the dining table in front of him. The woman beside him laughed before placing a kiss on his cheek. Her father seemed shocked for a second before he turned to the woman beside him with softened eyes. Slowly almost hesitantly he returned the gesture and pressed a soft kiss to her mother's cheek. The young woman giggled before turning back to face the camera. Tom seemed to have forgotten the fact that there was a camera and even through the black and white film Isabella could tell that he was flustered.

"What are you reading?"

Isabella slammed the photo album shut knowing that her father would not want anyone else seeing those photographs from his youth. The blonde boy seemed puzzled at her reaction before he decided to ignore it and slowly sat down in the armchair across from her.

The girl sighed through her nose and huffed as she tucked a lock of her obsidian hair behind her ear "What is it Draco?"

"Is that how you talk to your best friend you big bully?" the young heir feigned hurt putting his hand up to his chest.

Isabella rolled her eyes at the boy's dramatics. Him and Narcissa had arrived moments after the dark lord had left and had breakfast together. It had been a several hours since then and it was now late afternoon. The girl opened her mouth once more to utter something sarcastic no doubt before she was interrupted by a house elf appearing right between the two children.

"Lunch is ready Mistress Gaunt and Mr.Malfoy. Please go downstairs to the dining hall."

The two nodded at the elf and each got up from their respective seats to head back downstairs where Narcissa Malfoy was patiently waiting for them.

Once the three of them were seated a sea of dishes enough to feed 10 appeared before them. They all tucked in with the manners of royalty and for the first few minutes there was no noise other than sound of cutlery grazing against plates and bowls until Narcissa swallowed a bite of salmon and opened her mouth to speak.

Her enquiry was interrupted however at the sight of an elegant brown owl with sharp hazel eyes swooping down towards them. The three exchanged perplexed looks as the owl clearly didn't belong to any of them. Their owls were all expensive rare breeds and this one was obviously just a barn owl. The feathered creature stopped before them with a gentle landing and in it's beak were two letters with a burgundy red wax seal. Mrs. Malfoy took the letters out of the bird's beak before it immediately spread it's wings and took of once more into the sky.

"Who's it from mum?"asked Draco turning towards his mother.

Narcissa glanced at the seals before a smile twitched onto her lips. "I think you two better open them yourselves."

The two kids glanced at Narcissa confused before plucking the letters out of her hand and opening them.

The two silently read their respective letters before glancing at each other then at Narcissa in shock. They were silent while Narcissa smiled at them softly for a few seconds longer before they both broke out into a huge grin. Excitedly they both loudly exclaimed

"We're going to Hogwarts!"
