I haven't really given much context to this story but essentially, it will be based off of a mix of MDZS the novel, the donghua and the live action. This plot is set in Wei Ying's first life during his stay with the Wens in the burial mounds and then will over him reuniting with the wider cultivational world. Hope you guys enjoy. Wei Ying's POV
The limited sunlight streamed in through the trees illuminating the barren and haggard Burial Mounds, the epitome of hopelessness and futility but yet in the midst of the suffocating darkness grew a village.
In comparison with when the Wens had first been displaced it was incomparable. Sure, it was humble and small with no luxuries or lavish details but the occupants had learnt to accept it as a home. The small rows of ramshackle houses grew and advanced until everyone had a place of their own and the sparse, arid land had begun its transformation into fields. Wei Wuxian had been told he was crazy for attempting to farm and thrive but in the face of adversity, the hard-work and efforts of the people prevailed. Their strong will to live and to survive, their endless gratitude to their saviour, and their community strength allowing them to get through the hard times. Together. One big welcoming family.
A family that had gladly taken in Wei Wuxian, the venerable Yiling Laozu, and treated him as one of their own. And for perhaps the first time, Wei Ying could feel comfortable, understanding that his family could be who he chose, those who supported him as opposed to those who would only hurt him. Each day, he experimented and improved, bonding and cultivating and each night, the villagers came together to feast.
He missed the outside world, his Shijie, his Shidi - if they could be called that anymore... the life he would have lived watching his brother grow into a powerful and respected leader but it was gone and he knew he could never return. Since his separation from the world, the only hint of life he had seen was Lan Zhan and even that was brief. The man's presence had left a lasting impression on the villagers too - he had been there to assist them in regaining Wen Ning's consciousness, helped them afford toys for A-yuan and supplies for the farm and perhaps the most viciously, given A-yuan a taste of the outside world.
Everyday, he would inquire to Wei Ying about his old life, his family, what his 'rich gege' was doing, when they would see rich gege again... and it crushed Wei Ying. He wanted to go and see his family but he knew only trouble would ensue. He felt bad because he had chosen to condemn not just himself but also everyone of the Wens to this mundane life of farming and isolation and he wondered whether he had made the right choice every time he looked into the innocent child's eyes.
This particular morning, Wei Ying had been trying to avoid the sun entirely. He hadn't really slept as his experimentations had kept him up and by the time he'd dragged his way over to the bed, the first dim rays of dawn were appearing on the horizon. He could spend days upon days in his work without emerging, only stopping when the threats from Wen Qing forced him into submission.
He heard fast, light footsteps running in his direction before the wind was abruptly knocked out of his lungs. He could hear giggling coming from the wriggling figure atop him.
"Baba, guess who it is?" said the boy covering his eyes. He had decided by himself to take Wei Ying as his adoptive father figure and since no one objected, it had sort of stuck.
"Hmn," he said playing along, "I wonder who it could be? Oh, I bet you're Uncle Ning coming to take me into town."
The boy laughed again. "Don't be silly it's me! Your little A-Yuan"
"What!" he exclaimed, fake surprise laced through his voice, "What are you doing here. I think someone deserves a punishment for misbehaving. Off we go, we'll go plant you and see if we can grow better little A-Yuan's for me to look after," he teased.
"No! You can't! I'm the only A-Yuan and you love me! And Auntie Qing said that you're not allowed to plant me because it's silly and dirty!" the boy wailed.
"WEI WUXIAN! WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!?! IF YOU DON'T STOP THE NONSENSE AND GET UP ALREADY, I'LL COME AND GET YOU UP MYSELF AND YOU WON'T LIKE MY METHODS!" Shouted Wen Qing. "And Wen Yuan, when did I say you could run away from me?"
With that both were up and out in seconds, neither one wanting to feel Wen Qing's wrath this early in the morning. They quickly breakfasted with the other villagers before Wei Ying handed off A-Yuan to his grandma to look after whilst himself and Wen Ning went into town to sell vegetables. He would have taken the younger with him but (as well behaved as the child normally was) a day sat on the side of a road , trying to sell produce was boring even for an adult.
After a long day, they were just packing up and collecting in their money to go buy essentials when something caught Wei Ying's eye. 'It couldn't be', he thought. 'Why would they be here? They hate me!' But still he let himself hope and instructed wen Ning to follow the man. They were led down several winding alleyways until they finally reached a gate. The man opened it and beckoned Wei Ying inside.
"Shijie?"
