The Visit

2 weeks Later

Chip had been taken to the Big City Prison. His trial in court hadn't gone over so well. He didn't even try to defend himself. Everyone in the entire city knew he was guilty, and it was a losing battle he'd be fighting. So, he was sentenced to 20 years in jail (though Alice tried to convince the judge to give him a life sentence, and even at a point, death). He hadn't even meant to go that far with the helicopter. It was almost as if he had some sort of alter-ego that brought out the worst of him at times.

He sat in his cell, wondering how he took it so far. He knew what had happened wasn't right. At all.

To be honest, he even missed Cricket.

He became depressed, knowing that he had deprived an innocent little kid of his life, and took him away from the people he loved.

Why me? he thought. I never meant for any of that to happen. Sure, he was annoying and weird sometimes, but he never really deserved any of that.

Soon, the warden opened the jail cell. Chip, with a confused look on his face, asked what was going on.

"You have visitors," the warden claimed.

"Oh... Must be my dad....I can't imagine what all he'll have to say to m- wait...VISITORS? As in more than one?"

The warden nodded his head.

Now Chip was even MORE confused. The only group of people who he knew that would ever come to see him were the Greens, and even they wouldn't want to be anywhere near him right now.

"E-excuse me, but who exactly...IS it..?" Chip asked nervously.

"Looks like a family. They have a little girl and they seem kind of sad. Except for the older lady, she seems pretty ticked off," he explained.

Chip's stomach dropped when he heard what the warden had told him. It was the Greens!

"D-do i have to see them..?" he hesitantly asked the warden.

He had an answer- "No, but you probably should. It's probably for the best for you and your mental health if you interact with other people."

Even though he agreed, he'd rather this "social interaction" be with anyone other than the Greens right now. He didn't want to be anywhere around them, because it only brought him guilt and discomfort, remembering what happened that one night.

But, being the most nervous he'd ever been, he got up and headed toward the area where he'd meet with the Greens once again.

He eventually got to the window area, where families and friends of the inmates would talk through the phones with them.

Then he saw them.

And they saw him. They looked really sorrowful and angry.

His whole body froze, just like Cricket's had when he...

...well, you know.

No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't move.

Tears ran down his face, and he cried.

"I-i can't d-do this!" He stuttered. His voice cracked, and the Greens looked at him through the window, shocked at what they were seeing.

Chip started to turn away and run, but he kept himself from running away from his problems (literally), and approached the window.

Bill got the phone first.

"H-hey, Bill," Chip said.

"Hey, Chip," Bill sorrowfully replied.

At that point, Chip couldn't hold it in. His eyes flooded with tears and he started crying.

The Greens looked at him in shock.

"A-are you okay, Chip..?" Bill asked.

"N-NO! IM NOT!!" Chip yelled. "I-I'M A HORRIBLE PERSON!!!"

"Wha-" Bill started.

"I-I'M SO SORRY!" Chip sighed. "And...Alice, y-you were right. They should've given me the death sentence when they had the chance."

They all gasped, absolutely shocked that he said that.

"Chip-" Alice started, but Tilly interrupted her.

"'Sorry' isn't going to bring my brother back," Tilly mournfully said.

"What?" Chip confusingly asked.

Nancy put her hand on Tilly's shoulder, but Tilly broke away.

"You heard me! You're a MONSTER! I HATE YOU!" Tilly yelled, then ran out of the room, crying.

Bill got up. "I should go talk to her."

But Nancy stopped him. "No, I should. I think I upset her when I tried to calm her down."

"N-none of you should bother her. I...I think she needs to just have s-some time alone," Chip suggested.

"Wow..Chip, that was....really...insightful of you," Nancy said, surprised.

"Trust me, I know from experience..." Chip answered.

"It's true, though.. We should let her blow off some steam," Nancy contently replied.

About 5 minutes later, Tilly walked in once again, avoiding eye contact with Chip. She was still angry with him, but controlled herself from yelling at him again.

Chip apologized a million times, and the Greens started felling sorry for him. They could all tell that he didn't really mean to hurt Cricket, let alone k!ll him.

After staying for about 5 more minutes, they said their goodbyes and drove home.

————————————————————————

"Sweetie...are you okay..?" Bill asked Tilly.

"This is about my emotional outburst, huh?" she asked.

"W-well, yeah..." Bill responded.

"Not really. I still hate him, and I don't think I'm ever going to forgive him. If I ever do, though, it's gonna take a while," Tilly answered.

"Well, if you ever wanna talk about something, or just need someone to listen, you can always talk to one of us," Bill sympathetically said.

"Okay...thanks," Tilly replied.

Bill smiled and drove them the rest of the way home, where they made supper, ate it silently, and all decided to just go to bad, not in the mood to do anything else.
