honest feelings and bad timing had to be the most painful combination. and it's kind of ironic how my heart can still get hurt by something i already saw coming.

I got dressed before heading downstairs to have my breakfast. Securing the cufflinks, I slowly walked towards the dining table and noticed that Wren was already there. She was staring at me with her pale eyes wide with surprise — as though I had never woken up early in my life. My gaze scanned her from head to toe, noticing her usual prim and proper self had wiped away all the wild passion she displayed last night into nonexistence.

It irked me, honestly. At the back of my mind, I wished so badly to loosen her tie and unfasten the top button of her dress shirt to show her all the marks I left on her skin, reminding her of all the humanly emotions she had given me a chance to witness when I made love to her. Yet, I also knew that I was the one who caused this to her and it murdered me every single time when I arrived at an understanding that in another time, another life, she could be smiling and laughing brighter than all the stars above.

Swallowing all the dark emotions that were surfacing, I asked nonchalantly, "Is there something wrong?"

"Pardon me," she replied with her usual politeness. "I just hadn't expected that you would wake up on time."

"I can be a morning person, if I wanted to," I said simply and settled myself into the dining chair while grabbing onto the cup of coffee ahead of me — desperately needing some caffeine to wake myself up from all the wishful thinking. Seeing that Wren was still standing by my side, I offered, "You can grab a seat and have breakfast with me."

"I had my share in Grecia's kitchen," she mentioned, with an obvious tone that she would leave at the first possible moment. Her feet were already pivoted towards the door but she made sure to make a point clear before walking away, "Aillard, please be reminded that your first appointment is in two hours time."
