waltzing on glass
───────────────
This place was fancier than all that I had imagined. Men wore expensive suits while ladies were clad in silk and satins. Rather than the usual classical music that luxuriates the ambience of a typical gala, the entire place pounded with hyped-up beats as everyone flaunted their moves against the rhythms.
Naya walked towards me, holding out a glass of champagne towards me. I hesitated for a moment but took it from her and had a sip. The bittersweetness bubbled against my lips as I looked towards a general direction, scanning over the entire crowd in the gala. Naya stood beside me, her shoulders swayed slightly to the music before asking me, "Do you want to head down to the dancefloor?"
I shook my head and said, "No, you can go ahead."
"I'm not leaving you alone, dearest," Naya said, pulling on my arm as she tried to persuade me to go to the dance floor with her.
Unable to refuse my best friend, I followed right behind her as we weaved through the crowd till we stood in the middle of the dance floor. Strobe lights shone in faint hues against our skins as we moved with the rhythm that echoed through the entire space. Naya flipped her long hair over her shoulders and swayed with me. It had to be the alcohol and the hazy atmosphere because I was feeling heady and high, too ignorant to realise that a group of guys had surrounded us. The man who stood behind Naya stretched his arm out but was immediately stopped by another. Gazing up, I recognised the familiar messy brown hair and warm hazel eyes — Nolan.
He stood near to Naya, shielding her back from any unbecoming arms that tried to grab onto her. Those hazel eyes met mine and I smiled widely, knowing all his intentions from the way he protected her in his own ways. My attention snapped when I felt a presence behind me, as I turned around the guy raised both of his arm and pointed to Nolan to indicate that he tagged along with Nolan.
I directed my attention back to Naya again, realising that she also realised Nolan, who stood behind her. Naya checked the gaze of mine and Nolan, seemingly surprised that we were familiar with each other. Hastily grabbing onto our arms, she pulled us through the crowd until we were out of the dancefloor. Away from all the noises, she asked, "Why are you here?"
