her elaborate cage

there's something about Aillard and his cruelty — he's a tad bit too much for anyone. but he wasn't always this heartless, cold and calculating because i witnessed it for myself how tender-hearted and full of love this man could be.

perhaps one day he would understand why i stayed even when i felt like i was drowning. maybe he would also see that love doesn't ask and all that i felt for this cruel man had been there all along. in a manner as though it already belonged there.

I leaned my back against the chair, resting a side of my face on a propped up arm and my eyes gazed lazily across the table as the analyst presented, "The merger between Barlowe Engineering and Viotte Technology is conservatively estimated to raise the stock price by 19% and with just four million shares, we would earn ourselves a great influence in the market."

Another analyst added, "The annual profit per share will also soar and exceed. Undoubtedly, we're in a winning position."

I remained silent, gesturing towards Wren as she lifted her gaze from her laptop and stated matter-of-factly, "This would be an unsuccessful deal. Viotte is on a decline for four consecutive years, yet the upper management's wage doubled. Honestly, Barlowe's major shareholder, Weston Barlowe, doesn't hold an optimistic outlook on Viotte."

An analyst rebutted her, "It wouldn't make any sense to acquire Viotte for Barlowe if this isn't a promising investment."

Unfazed, Wren only explained, "What about this? Weston Barlowe's wife has a good 5% stake in Viotte Technology and as a major shareholder of Barlowe Engineering, he made a quote on behalf of the company. Isn't this a make-believe shot and his main purpose was to inflate share prices?"

The entire conference room went silent and I nodded with approval at Wren's performance while addressing to the rest, "Do remember that the Illiades is not a place for amateur mistakes."
