SUNNY woke up in his (very comfortable) bed, he had been discharged as the night took over FARAWAY TOWN. It was in the middle of night, it all felt familiar yet he was at ease this time. Just a few days ago he would panic over the smallest of things, and now he woke up feeling refreshed.
Even so, with everything that had happened, he couldn't sleep just yet. The fear of OMORI coming back still tormented his head. Especially with what's been happening. He shuffled out of bed to examine to clear his head in the living room or something, but before he could, he saw there was an unread voicemail on the phone, the red light blinking. He sleepily waddled over there and listened to it.
"Hey SUNNY! MOMMY here! I heard what happened with you and BASIL and I'm surprised to say the least, are you okay? KEL called and said you've been discharged. Call me back soon - or don't, that's okay. I know I don't get to say this, but I'm proud of you for trying to hang out with all your friends for the past few days. They really missed you. I'll be picking you up in another 2 days since you have more unfinished business in FARAWAY TOWN than I realized! That's all! MOMMY loves you!"
Silence fills the room once the voicemail stops, but it is quickly taken away with SUNNY's dialing.
He didn't expect an answer and he wasn't disappointed, he left a voicemail. It was a quick 'I love you', but it's the first he's spoken to his mother in a very long time. He felt a bit happy that he could finally say it without having the guilt clogging his throat from saying it.
A knock emerges from downstairs, a loud one that could shake the whole house. SUNNY would've woken up if he wasn't already because of it. It sounded aggressive and angry, SUNNY's heart beat loudly remembering the last time he answered the door this late.
"HEY! SUNNY! OPEN THE DAMN DOOR!"
The nervous feeling subsided and as he walked down the stairs, he went to go answer the door. He imagined what that other side would look like and saw the AUBREY in FARAWAY TOWN. The AUBREY he grew up with and is learning to understand better. But deep in his soul, he's scared to open it. Scared of what AUBREY might say, might do. His hand trembles as he reaches for the doorknob.
I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it I don't want to open it
"SUNNY, I'm not here to hurt you. I know you're there, you're breathing loudly again. I just.. wanted to talk." Her voice softened, hoarse and a bit forced but it was all SUNNY needed to calm down and open the door.
He saw what AUBREY looked like, she looked disheveled and her eyes were bloodshot red. "Why were you panicking behind the door?" She asked, concerned. "D-Did you honestly think I was going to hurt you?" Her face flushed and was confused, she tried to hide it with a scowl.
"Anyway, where do you want to go? I wanna talk somewhere private." SUNNY made a gesture for her to "stay put". He ran upstairs to one of the boxes in his room.
You got FLASHLIGHT!
Going back, SUNNY found AUBREY looking at the family photo.
"Why did you do it?" She asked quietly, her hand brushing on the painting, specifically on MARI's face. "How did you.. live with it?" She looked at him, crying. Her tough guy exterior faded away to dust, they felt like children again. SUNNY wanted to speak, but he showed her the flashlight in his hand.
He clicked the button and opened the sliding doors. He motioned for her to come and so she did. "I don't understand, what do you want to do in the backyard?" AUBREY asked.
