I Knew You Were Trouble

Chapter 5

Ethan's POV:

After hanging up from an awkward conversation with Veronica, I went back to sorting through papers mail and other important things. Or at least I tried to but that was kind of hard.

Veronica Ashcroft was not one to get nervous or embarrassed easily by her friends and family. So I thought. But after that talk I had changed my mind about her. Maybe she was hurt by someone earlier on in her life and that's why she acts the way she does. But she did know how to feel for someone, there's no doubt about that now.

Right after a long 20 minutes of trying to understand that conversation me and Veronica had, I came up with a resolution. Veronica could feel for someone but she had been hurt so now she's afraid to love someone. That doesn't mean she like's me though. Because of my resolution I thought Veronica would either be afraid to talk to be and avoid me. I was wrong. 

I looked up from my papers to see her coming in from the door, she was definitely pissed. She probably just came back from talking to Jae because she had come in a few minutes ago. Something bad happened. Surprisingly though, she walk- more like stomped- right up to me. She stopped right at my desk. While giving me the evil eye she said "Congrats, I guess we'll be seeing more of each other." and walked away without saying another word. 

I was confused. Why the 'Congrats' part? Nothing good happened today except the usual. And the part about seeing more of each other. The only time we talked was when we were making fun of one another, bragging to each other or giving information about the next mission. And that wasn't often. She only did mission's by herself, so even if I was going to do a mission it wasn't going to be with her.

I texted Anthony

Me: Dude, Veronica just came up 2 me and she was like really pissed. She said Congrats I guess we'll b seeing more uv each other. im confused man

Anthony: Ha she's cute wen she's mad. maybe ur getting promoted and ur gunna be workin w/her !

Me: Ya sure yaaaayy!!! *Sarcasm* She hates me thats not gunna work.

Maybe Anthony is right. It would make sense. She's mad because she has to work with me and she hates me. That's why she said 'I guess we'll be seeing more of each other.' She said 'Congrats' because I got promoted. It makes total sense. Now i just need to ask Jae. 

As i got up to go to her office she called the desk. "Ethan, come to my office." and then hung up on me.

I got up and walked/jogged to her office. I THINK I WAS JUST PROMOTED! I did a happy dance in my head. I knocked on her door harder and more eager than I wanted. "Come in, Ethan" She said. How does she always know it was me?

I walked in. She motioned to sit down after putting some papers down. I sat feeling like a dog being commanded by its master. "Did Veronica tell you?"

"Tell me what?....All she said was, and I quote 'Congrats, I guess we'll be seeing more of each other.' " I said.

"Well she's right. You have been promoted. You successfully made it though training. And your first mission will be with Veronica."

I was really happy until she told me I had to work with Veronica. Sure she's hot with her long black hair with long curls at the bottom, flawless skin and tall body. But she hates me if i haven't mentioned for the past 20 times. I almost wanted to just wait for another mission. But I decided not to.

Jae looked worriedly at me. "Are you OK, Ethan? I sighed and looked up at her. "Ya, it's just... I'm not Veronica's favorite person." "Well, she's going to have to deal with you no matter how much she pleads not to." she told me while smiling. " Now go home early. You have to get up at 3AM and meet Veronica at the airport at 5. I'll tell her all the flight and mission information. She'll update you tomorrow." She said before returning to the papers I now suspected where for the mission. "Wait," I said " Who is going to take my place?" She looked up. "Jasmine Alexander, I think you''l like her." and then dismissed me for the last time.

I took the hint and left. You think I'll like her? That's what you said about Veronica, and that didn't work out. I started to go to my car to go home. I needed to shower, pack and get a good nights sleep.
