46. Learn how to play guitar

My cold hands played with a thin, loose string on the cream cushion softening the small seat on the rain covered windowsill facing out towards the city. Cars and lights flashed by before my watery eyes as I watched the thunderstorm rolling in over the usually bright skies.

It was easy to understand why they called New York 'The city that never sleeps'.

A knock sounded at the front door, so after slipping my feet into a pair of warm, yellow slippers I turned the knob to see Harry and Niall standing side-by-side in the small doorway with cheesy grins plastered on their faces.

My confused look caused the two boys to burst into laughter, clutching their stomachs as Niall pointed to the guitar gripped in Harry's hand.

"I'm here to teach you how to play." His pale hand took the guitar from Harry as he kicked off his sneakers and walked silently across the clean (for once) room. To be totally honest, I still didn't understand what was so hilarious about me learning to play guitar.

Harry wandered about the apartment, helping himself to snacks in the fridge and tip-toeing off into my bedroom to watch T.V.

"He really has a habit of making himself at home." Niall snickered after making his obvious comment. I nodded my head in agreement as we both sat down on the couch.

"So, what's your favorite song?" Niall questioned, raising an eyebrow at me. "I have so many, it's hard to decide. But I love anything by Maroon 5." It was true- Adam Levine was probably the hottest celebrity out there. Don't try to argue with me on this one, please.

"It might be difficult, but I can try to find the chords to some of their songs once I teach you how to play."

For me, it was hard to get over the fact that I had such great friends. Nobody other than Jenna, who I have barely seen since my dad and sister passed away, and it felt kind of weird, but it was one of the best feelings in the entire world.

The next hour consisted of Niall getting frustrated by the way I held the instrument, then apologizing and laughing when I tried to play 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'.

"That's all for today," We had pretty much given up at one point and eaten two bags of animal crackers instead.

"Bye, Niall!" As the energetic boy exited my home I waved, and turned around to see Harry staring at me with an odd look upon his flawless features.

"What's the matter?" I pinched his flushed cheeks in attempt to make the tattooed boy smile, but he simply frowned and pulled me into a hug.

"Liv?" Harry had never been like this before; at least not with me. His chin rested atop my head as I felt his toned chest rise and fall into a deep sigh.

"Yes?" My palms were beginning to sweat as the nervous feeling in the pit of my twisted stomach grew larger by the minute.

"Can I ask you something?" After a few moments of silence, my voice finally managed a cracked 'anything' and Harry's entire body tensed.

"What is this?" He gestured to the two of us standing in the center of the kitchen with his large hand.

"This is," A brief pause later, I recollected myself and spoke. "Us." A glint of humor sparkled in his happy green eyes and helped to calm my nerves.

"As in?" A small smile crept upon my lips, but quickly faded away. "Olivia, look at me." His rough, callused hand cupped my chin gently, and my eyes were met with a friendly smile and a pair of sparkling eyes.

"Will you be my girlfriend?" Within just several mere seconds, his soft, pink lips pressed against mine, hands carefully caressing my face, as if I were as fragile as glass.

Once we parted, his bright smile was worth more than anything in the entire world.

I supposed that he was right; things did clear up a little more each and every day. Somewhat resembling the rainbow after a major storm. He was also right about the part where he was with me every step of the way.

"I'll take that as a yes."
