"Are you ok now?"
"I think so," I said finally catching my breath.
"Let's go back to the conference room and talk about what our plan will be."
We walked out of the bathroom, and on the way back to the conference room, I glanced around, and a few people were staring back at me. I lowered my head so I could block out all the eyes glowing to every move I make. I guessed they all figured out why I am here. We walked in and Carly escorted me to the chair closest to the investigation board. She stood next to me and collected a few files that were laid on the table. She turned to me.
"Ok, Becky I am going to tell you some things that might sound gruesome and hard to hear, but I think it would be good for you to hear what we are dealing with so that you can understand the situation."
I didn't know what to say, all I could do is nod my head.
"So, his first victim was named, April she was around your age- 25 years old; she was pretty and very outgoing. She was also in the medical field; we suspect he acted as one of her patients to get close to her. On August 21- 3 years ago, she was last seen leaving her work and on the way to the car. We know she made it to the car, before leaving the parking lot, we saw footage of her picking up a random man, he looked homeless; we think she didn't know him and was just trying to be a nice human being. After that night she wasn't seen again; she never showed up to work, never went out with friends, and her phone was turned off which wasn't normal. A few days later she was found raped, beaten, and on the side of the road of a highway in San Deigo, California. We talked to her friends and family, they told us that she was talking to someone named Joesph, they never met him, but she told them he was sweet and funny at first but over a couple of weeks he started to get creepy; always wanted to know where and when she was somewhere. When we examined her body, we found that he used a condom, tied her up and, beaten her almost every day while starving her and depriving her of anything to drink."
"How did he kill her?"
"She had defense wounds; we think she tried to fight back against him; he killed her by suffocating her with a pillow."
"Oh my god," I gasped, I couldn't speak very loudly I was to flabbergasted to say anything more.
"Becky, are you ok?"
"Yeah, I think so. Did all of them suffer like her?"
"Sadly no, one or two were considerably worse. We haven't had many leads on them, so your case is actually helped us get a lot of information."
"What are we going to do about him? What if he knows that I called you, what if him and Molly come here and try to hurt me?" I started to hyperventilate.
"Becky, I need you to calm down and breathe for me. In. Out. In. Out. Follow my rhythm."
She held my hand and took deep breaths with me. When I finally calmed down, she left the room and I stayed put in the chair, lucy laying at my feet looking around at the passing people in the hallway. A few minutes later she came back in but this time she wasn't alone. In came two men; one wearing a nice suit that looked brand new, with shiny black leather shoes, he had a small grown beard with a few grey hairs poking out; - he didn't seem like he was from around here, when he moved his coat moved and on his waist was a badge saying he was FBI; the second man was a little less formal wearing jeans and a polo shirt with working boots- he seemed to fit the vibe of the station.
"Becky, these men are here to help you understand what the plan is to move forward."
Carly introduced me to both Jack was the one in the suit and Landon was the second man. They shook my hands and sat down at the table they both had files they placed next to me. They handed both Carly and I a few papers, I had no idea what any of it meant.
"So, what we need to do is first find somewhere for you to stay while they are out there, since your home and work aren't safe, it's good to assume that they know you came to us. You have to stay here, and have very little contact with anyone," said Jack, he hardly made eye contact with me, he kept his eyes glued to the paper.
"If I can't go home, where can I stay?"
"We have a safe house being prepared as we speak," answered Landon.
"It should be about an hour before its ready, and we won't go over anything tonight, we will start fresh tomorrow. It has been a long day for you, and I think a break would be good," said Jack before standing up shaking my hand, saying goodbyes and walked out the room.
