TW: Major Character death, talk of being a bad friend, big scary monster, painful death, slow death, talk of feeling like a failure, let me know if I missed any!
The creature roars at the group as I film us all. He's pretty scary looking, but he's nothing I can't handle. I'm Spider-Man! And I have the rest of the group to back me up! I'm going to be fine!
Mr. Stark gave me this brand new suit to use today. It works so well! I'm swinging all over the place and I don't even have to pay attention because the suit can make sure I don't die.
The fight with this really big black gooey monster guy is taking longer than I thought it would. I have to be home in time for dinner with my friends. I promised them I'd be there. I did tell them that something may come up with the Avengers, and I might have to cancel, but I'd really rather not do that to them again.
I've got to have swung around this guy at least 20 times, I can't find a spot that I can web him up. I've got to find a spot soon.
I guess in my desperate attempt to find a place to take him down at, I forgot to pay attention to the actual monster. I can feel him hit me hard, knocking me at least 30 feet out of the sky. Okay Peter, pay attention, you can fix this. My webs aren't working, I can't stick to any nearby buildings, they're too far away. I can't do anything.
Before I know it, I'm on the ground, hitting my spine directly. I can hear bones crack and I can feel the pain as my breathing picks up. I can't take my mask off to breathe better, there are news cameras everywhere.
It feels like forever as I wait for someone to notice me on the ground. I can't move, it hurts too much. I can't speak or yell for help, because that might drag the attention of the monster we're fighting to me, and I really can't take another hit.
I try to curl up into a ball, but it just causes more pain, so there isn't anything I can do. I'm completely helpless.
Ned and MJ are waiting on me for dinner, I can feel it. I really wanted to show up for them today, prove that I can be a good friend. And a good boyfriend. I wasn't able to really hang out with them because of everything going on in the world. I've been so busy with being Spider-Man. I don't think they really blamed me, but I know they were getting frustrated.
After what feels like an eternity, Mr. Stark sees me on the ground and flies over to me. I think they finally figured out the monster's weakness and are making progress in taking it down.
"Kid, what happened."
"I was just swinging and he hit me. I fell and then my web shooters got jammed and the buildings were so far away, and I-"
"Take a breath. You're going to be fine."
"You can't promise that, can you?"
He pauses for a moment. "No, kid, I can't promise that, but I'm going to do my best. I just need you to breathe."
"I-I can't breathe Mr. Stark, it hurts, why does it hurt so much?"
"I don't know kid. Can you move at all?"
"I can't feel my legs. Everything feels like it's on fire, what am I supposed to do?"
"I need you to try to relax. Okay? I'm going to pick you up and sit you up against one of the nearby buildings. Just try to relax."
"Okay Mr. Stark." As I relax as best I can, I feel Mr. Stark pick me up. It hurts. I feel like my body is bending in the opposite way it should, but this is a completely natural way for the human body to bend. I'm dragged over to a wall as I see the monster fall for the last time. The rest of the team begins to clean up. I'm just sat against the wall, being the least helpful ever.
"Kid, here, drink this." Mr. Stark holds up some water for me to drink. I hardly get one sip down before throwing up from the intense pain that came with using any sort of muscles. I can feel my breathing pick up, even though it sounds like it's slowing down.
"Jarvis, what's going on with him?"
I can't hear the suit, but I can see from Mr. Stark's reaction that it is not good.
"Peter... Come on kid"
I can see my vision slowly going black as I try so very hard to stay awake. Mr. Stark's voice seems to get farther and farther away as I hear him yelling for me to stay awake. "Kid, stay with me. You've got to stay awake. There's ambulances on the way, you just have to stay awake for a little bit longer."
I can't get much more than "I'm trying Mr. Stark. I'm sorry I've failed." I can't get it higher than a whisper either.
My vision goes completely black as my breathing slows to a stop and my heart stops beating.
I can't hear anything other than Mr. Stark screaming for help as I fall asleep for the last time.
Wow, uhm. I was going to write fluff, then I found a really good angsty prompt, so now you have this. Hope you enjoyed.
