Another one of these missions. You know you're good at them, but are they serious? The only reason is because you get attached too easily.
You're supposed to spend a couple years or so right by his side, then let him know the only reason you hung out with him is because someone made you. He's supposed to be so broken up about it, then Hydra can swoop back in and take him, regaining their best assassin.
You were created for this. Should be a piece of cake, just don't get attached.
Meeting is the second most difficult part, because you have to pretend to not already know everything about him. You need to only know the parts that are public, and even then you have to leave some details out so it's plausible that you like him for him and not because he's a figure in the media.
So you do research, find out his favorite coffee spot, and start going there around the same time as him. You pretend to not notice he's there for a while. Taking about a weeks worth of time to notice him. Then you start staring, making sure you look at him every time you stop by. This takes less time because once you've noticed him you can't take too long to make a move, or it get awkward pretty quickly. So three days.
"Hey, I seem to notice you every time I stop by, you come here frequently?" you ask the second time you stop at the coffee shop on the third day.
"Yeah, every day actually. Got to have my coffee to deal with the Avengers and all their crazy."
"I bet. I don't know much about the Avengers, but I guess living with a bunch of people who basically have superpowers can't be easy." You should know. You got empathy, you can play someone's emotions like an instrument. Turning up the intensity of anything already lying there, or down.
"Yeah, So where do you come from?"
Of course, the age old question, it's fine, just stick to your alibi. "I come from a small town in Wyoming. Moved here a week or so ago now to study filmmaking." Complete lies. You don't even remember the name of the town you were supposed to have grown up in.
"Neat, hope you do well, although I'm sure you will."
"Thank you," You smile, "What about you? Where do you come from?"
"Brooklyn."
"No other details?" Of course you knew the details, Hydra brainwashed him to do good for the country.
"I don't like talking about it much."
You could feel his anger rise, as well as some other negative emotions. Helping him suppress that, you continue, "Okay, we don't need too."
So it began. You slowly grew more and more attached to Bucky, as he grew more and more attached to you.
It takes a while, but Hydra is not one to play a short game. Long games have a much better success rate. You could do this, you had no choice.
He always remembered your birthday, your anniversary, any important dates to you he remembered. Of course, you remembered his, but this was more out of necessity rather than love.
He knew you had secrets, but you knew he had his. It worked out for you, and he believed you every time you said you loved him. Probably because it wasn't a lie. Just not the full truth.
Eventually, however, you got the message to end things.
You took a deep breath and went to find Bucky. For the better of the world.
