For many years, you had removed yourself from your past relationship. You and your boyfriend Alex-- well, ex-boyfriend-- decided to cut things off once he left for college to study law. It broke your heart, but you both knew that long-distance wasn't a realistic option. The night of his flight, Alex called you to tell you he was outside of your house at two in the morning. You still remember entering his car in the pitch-black dark and pin-drop silence of the night, and you never forgot how he kissed you so hard that for a split second, you forgot he would be gone in a few hours. Two years later, you still remember the way his lips felt when they met yours for the last time. It was pure electricity, and you would never admit it to your friends but it was a memory you visited quite often.

But now you were here. You had taken a flight from where you lived to the West Coast for a job opportunity, and it happened to be near Alex's university. You had just gotten off your flight an hour ago, immediately showering and changing upon arriving at your hotel room around 11 PM. You changed from your grey sweatshirt and sweatpants to a short, navy blue nightdress that was slightly loose at the top yet hugged your body. The room was nice-- you had one queen bed, a bathroom, some modern furniture, and a bottle of wine on the counter as a complement to the sleek design of the hotel-- but you had never felt more alone in your entire life. At this rate, you didn't know what to do with yourself. You were tense and stressed, and were in desperate need of something to relax your mind.

Impulsively, you decided to call him.

The phone rang once, twice, now thrice. You were glad Alex didn't block you-- not that he had a reason to, but it had been years since you guys had spoken to each other. Your stomach did backflips as you didn't expect him to pick up. After almost hanging up, you heard someone pick up the other end of the line.

"Hello?" a low voice slurred. You were taken aback by how raspy it was, you hoped he wasn't sleeping before he picked up.

"A-Alex?" you stuttered. "It's Y/N. Hope I didn't wake you up just now."

"N-no, I was up," he murmured, seeming confused. "I'm just finishing my law homework."

"I don't remember you being so studious, damn," you said jokingly, trying to ease the obvious tension between the two of you. "Why so late?"

"I'm not a nerd..." he admitted, stifling a laugh. "I'm actually so behind on all of my shit."

"Oh," you replied quietly. There was an awkward silence between you two. You could hear Alex typing away on a laptop before he finally chose to speak.

"So, uh," he started, awkwardly. "Why'd you call all of a sudden? After like what, two years?"

"Oh, right," you muttered, embarrassed. You were so caught up in your nerves that you completely forgot why you were on the phone. In the moment it seemed like a good idea to call Alex, but now you were beginning to regret it. "I-I'm nearby, Alex. I took a flight for a job and now I'm here."

"Here? You mean, like, here in Arizona?" (A/N someone please tell me what state he lives in if he's released it because idfk so i made it up.)

"Yeah, I'm near your university at a hotel."

"Holy shit," Alex said in disbelief. "Y/N, why didn't you tell me sooner, this is so nice, I wish I knew--"

"Shut up and come over," you said, talking over him and stunning him with your bold words.

"Please," you added nicely. "I'm alone and I'm stressed, I could use your company. And it would be nice to catch up."

Being the sweet person he was, Alex agreed. Within ten minutes, you had sent him the hotel address and your room number. You heard a soft knock on the door and lifted yourself from the bed to answer it.

You creaked the door open slightly, just over an inch wide for your eyes to peek out and make sure it was Alex outside--it was. And he looked good as ever.

Alex's dark, almond eyes pierced through you. He was wearing a dark hoodie over some black shorts, and some nice Nike sneakers. He hadn't gotten much taller-- Alex was barely average height, not that you minded it-- but his shoulders seemed broader and his face seemed more mature than you remembered. 'I mean, it comes with age I suppose,' you thought to yourself, dismissing it immediately. Though his attire was extremely casual, you were overwhelmed by the sight of him. Of course, he was also still wearing his infamous beanie, which read "LAFD" at the top and made you smile.

You opened the door to let him in. Alex looked you up and down before entering the room, making you realize that you probably should have changed once you were expecting company. "Hey, Alex," you said nervously. "Thanks for coming, I really appreciate it. I've always been able to count on you for shit like this."

"It's nothing, really," he said nonchalantly as he entered the room, closing the door behind him.

"It's so good to see you, Y/N. I missed you."

You felt your face flush slightly. "Alex, I--"

You were interrupted by a pair of arms snaking around your waist, pulling you into a tight and loving hug. Shit, you really missed his hugs.

"I've been waiting to do that for two years, Y/N," Alex purred in your ear, still holding you close. "God, I've missed you so much."

At this hour, you weren't in the mood for chit-chat. You had a hundred things you wanted to ask Alex-- you hadn't spoken to him in years, after all-- but right now all you wanted to do was chase his touch. You pressed into the hug, your hands draped over his shoulders and connecting behind Alex's neck.

"I missed you too," you mumbled into his neck, moving to rest your chin on top of his shoulder. You and Alex stayed like that for a few minutes, your breaths almost in sync. You could smell a faint trace of Alex's cologne-- it seemed like he used the same one from high school, but you loved it because it reminded you of old memories with him. Alex moved one of his hands to your hair to play with it, the other resting on your lower back.

You looked up into Alex's tired eyes. "Come. Lay down. Can we?" you pleaded quietly.

He nodded, guiding you to the queen bed. You layed down on your back and Alex followed laying on his stomach, curling up into your chest. His hand crept its way into yours, as he looked up to you with pleading eyes, opening his mouth to ask something.

"Can I kiss you?"

The way he asked you so softly just blew you away. "God, I thought you'd never ask," you replied sweetly. Alex sat up slightly and brought his face closer to your lips. He paused for a second to linger close enough to your face that you could feel his breath on your skin. His lips curled into a smile just before reaching your lips.

For the first time in two years, you felt the same electricity that you had been chasing for what felt like forever. Alex's lips met yours and you instantly melted into his touch. His kiss was soft and filled with pure love and affection. You kissed back excitedly, eager for his touch. As he continued to kiss you, Alex's hand found its way to hold your face dearly.

You both stopped to catch your breath. You could feel a smile forming on your face as you looked back at Alex, resting on your chest and in pure bliss. You brushed your finger against his cheek, and he lifted his hand to intertwine both of your fingers together.

"Stay..." you pleaded, as you held eye contact with Alex. "Please, babe."

Alex smiled as he pulled you on top of him, kissing you gently as you rested on his lap.

"I'm right here," he whispered in between kisses.

Right here.
