-Jack POV-
I've always had a little crush on my best friend Caroline. She's just so beautiful, and has that softness that makes you fall for her even more. But, since we're best friends I've learned to control it.
I wish she would tell me what is going on with her. She never seems like her normal self. She seems much more quieter these past few months. She reads this letter a lot, and I've never known whom it was from or what it says.
I decide to text her to make sure she's ok.
Jack: Hey Care Bear (: You ok?
I continue my homework, and wait for her answer. I feel a buzz, and read the text.
Caroline: Kind of. Can we meet at Winton's?
Jack: Of course. See you in a few.
Winston's is a little ice cream and burger shop on the very edge of our little town. It rarely gets business, but we go there frequently. We've gone there since we were nine and ten years old.
I grab some cash, and inform my mom about where I'm going. I exit the house, and hop into my old pick up truck.
After a few minutes of silent driving, I am in the parking lot. I get out, and head to the entrance.
I see Caroline sitting in the corner alone with a milkshake. I walk over to her, grinning. My smile slowly fades away as I notice her red rimmed eyes. I realize that she's been crying.
"What's wrong Care Bear?" I ask sensitively. She smiles weakly, and shakes her head.
"Oh it's nothing. Just stressed out I guess.." She replies.
I just nod understandingly, because I know she probably doesn't want to talk about it. I order my usual strawberry milkshake, and sit in silence with Caroline.
"So how are things going at home?" I ask, breaking the silence.
"Fine." She responds rather quickly, shifting in her seat.
"Well, I unfortunately have to go. Bye Caroline." I say softly, standing up.
She grabs my arm, and whispers the most meaningful words.
"Thank you Jack. I know that you're busy, but you still came down here to just sit in silence. Thank you."
-Caroline POV-
I walk into my house after getting home from Winston's. I hear Darla in the living room giggling. I walk over there, and find her in a skimpy dress sitting on the lap of an older man. He looks like he smokes meth, and reeks of cigarettes.
Darla spots me, and stops giggling.
"Where have you been little girl?" She slurrs angrily.
"I was at the library doing homework." I lie.
"I know your were with that boy again!" She screams. She throws her beer bottle at me, while the man just watches. The bottle lands inches away from me, and a shard of glass cuts my leg.
I bite my lip from the pain, and look at Darla. She's smirking.
"I'm sorry." I tell her.
"Haha, you better feel damn lucky that I'm not gonna whip your ass tonight. Now get the hell away from me, slut." She curses at me.
I hurry upstairs to my room, and crash in my bed. I feel way too tired to harm tonight, so I just fall asleep in my clothes weeping silently.
