Chapter 1 of 1

After Eddie got shot, he was on leave for one week. And Carla came over.

"So any new thing happened these days?"

Eddie was speechless, contemplating about whether to tell her or not so he blurts out," I told Buck that he would be Christopher's legal guardian, if I ever don't make it back home."

"YOU DID WHAT." her mouth fell open. "Have you talked to Chris about it, about what he is supposed to do if put in a position as that? Talk to him, Edmundo."

"Alright, wish me luck and pray he won't break another salad bowl." Eddie stood up and went into Chris' room.

"Hey buddy, can I come in?"

"Hey Dad." Chris said with a slightly dejected voice and a frown on his face.

"What happened? You okay?" Eddie looked really worried.

"Buck is late for game night. He promised he would come, but he didn't."

"He is stuck at work. He texted me earlier."

"Stupid work."

Eddie would never be offended or angry when Chris said that, he would feel how sad Chris was. After all, that little kid has been through so much, surgeries due to his cerebral palsy, his mother's death, a tsunami, his Dad getting shot; but yet he always put on a bright smile on his face and be his cheerful self, he deserved the world.

"How about we have a Disney movie marathon with Ana? Carla can't stay that long."

"No...I will wait for Buck."

"Alright then, why don't I sit with you for a minute. I have some things I need to talk to you about anyway."

They talk about random things, like honeybees, tea, dinner for the next day, etc. Carla slaps her forehead and almost starts to regret life choices.

When Buck, Chimney, Hen and Maddie pull over to drop Buck at Eddie's house. They find the door open. Suspecting a break in Chimney started to record thier visit in his phone, so that if they do not make it back, Bobby will have some clues to work with. As they step into the house quietly, they find the house blundered(they did not know that Eddie had his nephews and sisters over).

"Hey, Chim look even the glass is broken. They must have broken the glass with a hammer. There!" Hen said pointing at a play hammer.

"I think we should arm ourselves, right, Buck?" Maddie seemed really worried.

" Take this knife. I will take Eddie's baseball bat." Buck answers.

"Since when did you have a pocket knife?"

"All firefighters keep one. In case of emergency. How are- were you a 911 dispatcher like this sis?"

Maddie said in an angry tone,"I am the one holding a knife, remember? Now shush!"

They made there way into the corridor which had a turn just after stayed Chris' room. They could hear whispers.

Hen positioned herself in a stance holding the knife and praying to make it back home. Chimney holds Maddie's shaking hand as both of them hold they weapons. Buck was ready to beat the hell out of anyone who hurt Chris and Eddie.

At this point, he was angry at himself for not coming earlier and now his friend was paying for that just like at the sniper shootout where Eddie got shot and almost died but Buck should have been the one who deserved it. He despises the fact that he could not do anything to protect his best friend.

The thoughts were interrupted when Carla decide to reward herself with some juice and walked in on the terrified and lost puppies.

Instead of screaming, she composed herself. "Don't scream. Eddie is having a 'talk' with Christopher."

They sighed a sigh of relief.

"What is the 'talk' about anyway?" Chim asks quizzically.

"What that boy would do if Eddie does not make it back home."

"Oh, what would he do by the way?" Hen asked as she stuffed her mouth with a bag of potato chips she found nearby. Sadly she had to share it with the others.

"Buck will be his legal guardian."

Maddie, Hen and Chimney stopped eating and looked at Carla almost choking.

"Shut up! ARE YOU SERIOUS." Maddie managed to speak. She looked at Buck who looked at her with his puppy eyes.

"Ok now, don't be mad."

"How could not tell-"

"Guys, shush. Let's hear them." Hen said tip-toeing her way to Chris' room as the others followed.

After three minutes of Eddie spewing random things and thinking how to spill the beans, he asked:

"Hey Chris, if...one day...I don't make it home. Wh-what will you do?"

"You mean die??"

"Yes Christopher, die."

The words hit everyone hard, Eddie more than anyone but he knew this wasn't a time to give in.

"Are you dying, dad?" the voice said with tears in his eyes." I will go to...Buck. He said that he would never leave...me, unlike...everyone..."

Eddie smiled and said to him"I am not dying Christopher. And someday...even if I do I will always be with you. Now, you say you will live with Buck?"

"You better do that, because he is going to be your legal guardian, no one else, not even your grandparents, okay?"

Christopher nodded his head. The five eavesdroppers were in awe of the two.

"Hey dad, "

"Hmm"

"You trust Buck...I wish you did with Mom too." Eddie wanted to say something but couldn't.

Christopher smiled and said,"But I love Buck. He is my favourite person in the whole world!" He was back to his cheerful self. The words melt Buck's soft heart.

Eddie smiled and, without thinking, said:

"Mine too."

Buck choked up as everyone started to crack up at this sudden confession.

Well the cracking up made everyone's presence known to Eddie who was really, really embarrassed.

Buck noticed that Chimney's phone was recording this conversation and, that it was being send to Bobby as live updates, so to make it a little less embarrassing he said:

"You are my favourite person too, Eddie. Of course after Christopher. Right, buddy?"

Christopher giggled.

"Oh how sweet is that! You made yourself a ship name 'Buddie'!" Maddie said almost tearing as Buck deadpanned," Cute."

"Hey Buck why did you say that?" Eddie asked.

" To save you of course or was it more like let's get embarrassed together cause I meant what I said, I wonder." Buck ended on a teasing tone.
