Eris Malacoda woke up angry. This wasn't a strange occurrence for the girl. She threw the comforter off of her body and shot up. When the girl is angry, she directs her anger towards tasks, whether it's writing an essay, or in this case getting ready. There was nothing for her to be specifically angry about. Well other than being friendless, having shitty parents, and a teacher who she's sure will hate her, but none of that was currently happening. So why was she angry?

Walking down to the Great Hall for breakfast, Eris held her head high, she didn't have time to care about anyone else because she knew no one cared about her. It was quite obvious. Yes, it was self deprecating, but to say it wasn't true would be a lie.

Eris plopped herself down on the bench and shoveled scrambled eggs onto her plate. The girl enjoyed eggs quite a bit. And they were very healthy, her mother would always tell her to eat them because eggs in fact, are a super-food.

Eris kept to herself while eating as Professor Flitwick went down the Ravenclaw table handing out their schedules. When Eris went to fill a glass with pumpkin juice, she caught a girl with big brown doe eyes concealed with glasses, a button nose with freckles painted over her heart shaped face staring at her. Eris never knew how to handle these kinds of situations, so in her attempt to be "nice" she said,

"Why're you looking at me?"

A prominent blush dusted the unnamed girl's cheeks, as she replied,

"Oh er- I just was thinking about how cool you seemed yesterday..."

Eris didn't understand what she meant exactly; Eris was nowhere near cool, hell she didn't have one friend, let alone be classified as cool. So the Malacoda girl stayed silent feeling awkward with the ways she could reply.

"With Umbridge, I mean." The girl's lips curved into a meek smile seemingly like she was still embarrassed by the whole exchange.

"Oh thanks, I mean I honestly couldn't really help myself," Eris said with an insecure laugh. "Sorry, what's your name?"

The girl giggled and said, "Adelaide, you're Eris correct?"

"Yeah."

They awkwardly stared at each other for a couple minutes, until Professor Flitwick finally reached them, and handed the two girls schedules. Eris stared at the long piece of parchment and noticed a surprising amount of classes with the Gryffindors this year; typically, the Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs were paired together then there were the Gryffindors and Slytherins. Eris never knew why the school did that seeing as the red and green houses would always buck heads, and the Slytherins seemed to always get along with the Hufflepuffs.

"Hey, what classes do you have today?" Adelaide asked, and Eris and her started comparing their days, and as it turned out had 5/8 classes together. And slightly out of nowhere, Adelaide blurted, "DO YOU WANNA BE MY FRIEND?"

From the brief amount of time Eris had spent with the girl, she decided that she liked Adelaide. They both seemed quite awkward, so it made it easy to interact with each other. Eris decided she would adopt the girl as a friend, and what did she have to lose? The raven haired Malacoda was already emotionally distant, and part of her wanted to change that, so being a friend was the step in the right direction.

"Yeah sure," Eris finally replied with a soft smile. She wanted to seem genuine and the smile, she thought, sold it well. It now became time that the girls needed to start heading to class. Eris didn't know how to navigate this situation, she didn't know if she was supposed to offer to walk with Adelaide to Potions, or if that would just be a given. Adelaide seemed to catch onto this, and asked if they could go to the dungeons together. Eris wondered if Adelaide could be psychic.

The girls trekked through the castle's hallways and corridors, went down the moving staircases, to get to the icy cold room with their worst teacher. Eris wondered if Professor Snape would be more bearable now that the new mouse lady was working here. Eris believed in earning respect, and so far Ms. Pink Squeaker Umbitch lady held none to the youngest Malacoda.

Eris found herself seated in the Potions classroom as the coldhearted professor drawled out,

"Open your textbooks to page 147."

A groan echoed through the class as Professor Snape instructed them to take notes on the uses of wormwood. Eris absentmindedly scribbled down the regions it's found in, how to prepare it for different effects, etc. The girl knew that as the day progressed she would feel exhausted at the end of it, but for now, all she would do is go through the movements of the day, and simply function.
