"We are only given today, and never promised a tomorrow"
____________________________________________________________
We have these meetings every month, about important things that are happening, or need to happen. Basically just any news, we save it for these meetings. Most of the shifters don't have to attend, but anyone with a role or is in power, has to attend. But me, I have the "need a role" role. I haven't really gotten to do anything with my role, but I had a feeling it would be soon. The only person who ever gets to leave each of our hideouts is The Leader, but she only leaves if she really has too.
The meetings always start at 9 am, on the 21st of each month. I had woken up at 6:47 am today, which was late for me. I like to go on a run each morning, but I do it in a slightly different manner then most humans. I changed into some workout clothes and then went outside barefoot. As soon as I stepped on the cold ground, I started to transform into my shifter form, which was a wolf(we know this right?). It felt good to be a wolf, my thoughts were a lot clearer, and besides who doesn't love being an animal.
As soon as I started running, I saw Devin. He usually isn't up this early, but we both find it easier if there aren't many people around. He was near the market. I had run up to him, and transformed back into a human. He turned around, the light green streak in his hair visible under the sun.
"Hey, Raven. I figured you would take your run soon," He said, while taking a bagel with cream cheese, and giving some money to the cashier. "I just realized yesterday that today will be my first meeting. I had only gotten a small to-go cereal box and a granola bar, giving the cashier 5 dollars(or whatever currency y'all use). I had nodded, that was one of the only good things about the meeting today, my best friend would be there."Yeah, I don't know though. I just want action, I want to go beyond this village!" I looked beyond the village, to just trees. It was trees for miles and miles(or kilometers, I don't care). I looked at him, but he just shook his head, and gave me a side hug, transforming into a deer. I turned back to a wolf, and finished my run.
It was around 8 am when I finished, which gave me enough time to shower. After my shower, I was just kind of chilling. I thought back to 13 years ago, when we were forced to go into hiding. Luckily, we have enough space for all of us, but it's not fair while humans get the rest of the earth.
I was putting on some light makeup when I heard Devin knock on my door.
"Hey, there's five minutes until the meeting starts. And you have to be there, no exceptions."
"Alright, give me a minute."
With a sigh, I shuffled into the room where everyone was waiting for me, a bored look on most people's faces. You see, as a high member of the pack I was expected to be here for every meeting. But, most of the time I am either late or just don't bother arriving at all.
"I'm here, happy?" I said, sarcasm dripping from my voice.
"Very" The leader answered, seeming to not detect the sarcasm.
"I know all you guys want to leave this village, and go beyond. But it wasn't safe, until now. However, only three people will be able to leave, to try and get more land back for us."
More debating, conversation, blah blah blah. I just wanted to get out of here and go do stuff that I wanted to do. I didn't even know why I was invited to these anymore, they bored the hell outta me and I didn't even listen. I'd debated with the leader multiple times, she never let me out of them.
We were finally dismissed, but I got called back. All I heard were the words 'Raven, stay here, I need to ask something of you. It will only take a second' I sighed, but stayed back anyway.
