1927

About 19 years had passed and my views of life had changed. Cilan had grown stronger and seemed to be pleased that I was more reclusive. My grandfather was astounded to see I was still alive, now relying on me to help him out with the business. The new business that was set up not far from where I lived with Grandfather. Unlike my old home which sat on top of the business this time it was separate. There was more space and more nicely decorated to appeal to our clientele. Everyday I wore a suit and tie and helped my Grandfather with everything. He had somewhat forgotten the past, being optimistic or just lost of memory he seemed to be struggling along.

"Emanuel, I need you to help me with this body."

Gesturing to the corpse. We were busy dressing it and making it presentable before it's seen by the grieving family.

"I know about this man. I know what he wants for his funeral,"

I stated in a rather rigid tone, that it kind of disturbed my grandfather.

"Emanuel, you are starting to scare me. You're claiming you know this man inside and out you never met him before. Unless you talked to the family that had come here to plan his funeral"

He moved away as I glared at him.

"Grandfather, can you please leave me with them?"

I said, the coldness in my green eyes pierced into my grandfather's weak blue eyes.

"You changed into something I didn't expect from you. Why not go outside and get some air?"

He suggested it and then I took a couple of steps towards him.

"Thank you, but I prefer not to."

Glaring at him as I watched him back away and headed away.

It had been quite some time since I was cleansing deceased people's minds, in that time Cilan had to be patient knowing all too well what happened last time. Things had changed a lot, I could tell Cilan was giving me a look that they were more tittering into infatuation. I too did start to feel somewhat the same, with the absence of another person to be close to, Cilan was all I had. I was happy with it, though it made me feel rather empty.

" You're going to be very comfortable with this. Communicating with the dead."

Cilan purrs. I turned to the dead corpse.

"I tend to wonder, if a person dies alone... what if we paired that person with another?"

I suggested placing my hand over the man's face. Cilan was a little surprised by this and emerged from my body to face me.

"Coupling dead people together... I think you are out of your mind,"

He protested. I didn't respond straight away.

"Think about it, Cilan, everyone desires a soul mate." I said and touched the man's face.

"The fact he was alone, he never got the chance to find someone. Don't do this. Just because you can't love someone. You're resorting to making friends with these lifeless souls,"

He moved over to my side.

I turned and smiled.

"You're the one that made me like this. I can't love someone else but myself. So I am,"

"It's a shame the business is struggling to get by with clientele. But with my talent, we could make each funeral have some sentimentality and intimate send off." I announced.
