Lots of thoughts were flowing through my mind as I rode to Jean's apartment. There could be several reasons why he wasn't answering me.
It could be something as simple as his phone died and forgot to charge it, or he's sleeping. But if that was the case the calls would've gone straight to voicemail, or he would call me back as soon as possible to explain.
Then the other reason could be he's hiding something from me. I don't want to even think about the fact that he could be cheating on me.
I shook my head and turned up the radio to distract myself from the negative thoughts that were spewing into my mind and applied a little more pressure onto the gas pedal.
I parked my car in his garage at a space tucked in the corner, hoping nobody occupied that spot. In the elevator ride, I took a couple of deep breaths to slow my racing heart.
The ding of the elevator pulled me out of my breaths, and the metal box jerked a little making my purse and plastic bag rub against each other, moving the snacks around.
I placed a couple of knocks on the door creating a little beat before pulling my fist away.
No response. I knocked again with a bit more vigor and waited once again. Then I heard shuffling come from the other end of the door. The sound of two audible clicks filled my ear and the door opened revealing Marco.
"Oh hey, Y/n what's up?" Marco spoke with the corner of his lips moving up a bit forming a smile. But his eyes remained blank with pupils slightly dilated.
"Hey, I'm here to see Jean, we have a project to work on." I simply replied not bothering to return his botox smile.
"Oh, Jean? Yeah, he's not home." Marco said this with his eyes darting down to the right and scratching the back of his head.
He's lying.
"Oh really? Where is he at?"
"He's probably still at the gym, overtraining. You know him."
"Got you. I'll just give him a call." I spoke testing him.
"You're gonna call Jean right now?" Marco questioned raising his voice.
I replied with a hum pulling out my phone swiping to his contact. I put my phone to my ear and locked eyes with Marco and I swore I saw him swallow.
My ears perked up at the familiar default apple ringtone playing from inside the room.
I hung up and crossed my arms staring Marco down with serious eyes.
"Cut the shit Marco, what's going on?"
"Okay okay. Truth is... Jean doesn't want to see you." Marco admitted with a sadness filling his eyes followed by another swallow.
I dropped my arms and my whole face dropped.
