Okay, so you've joined Wattpad, and you're super excited about it. Now what?
First things first, you need to make a good user.
The user is what will make or break your profile. If someone doesn't like your username or profile picture, they will most likely skip your stories.
So, how do you make a good user? Let me help you out.
1. The username should be something short and sweet. Don't try and extend it very long, it's a bad idea (i.e. ILovePizzaAndItTastesGreat453781).
2. Try and avoid using any numbers, and if you must, only a couple. (i.e. Instead of using 6381928635SecondsOfSummer143619017, go with 5SOSIsLife).
3. If possible, don't use symbols, like underscore ( _ ), star ( *), and slash ( \). It'll make your username harder to remember.
4. It should represent what you're about, so it should have some sort of meaning. Don't use names like USERNAME54_719392. That just shows you really don't care. Instead, make it your name, a hobby, or something you like to do.
5. The username shouldn't be a mix of capitals and lower cases (i.e OoNwDjOdFOAjdj). NObOdy liKES tO reAD LiKE thiS.
Next, is the profile picture.
1. Use the highest quality picture possible. Blurry pictures become even blurrier when used on Wattpad.
2. It's not always the best idea to use a picture of a celebrity. Chances are, if someone isn't fond of that celebrity, he/she will skip over your profile. Don't get me wrong, I love 1D as much as the next girl, but try and use something uniquely you.
3. Don't try and copy anyone else's profile. You're unique, and you should be yourself.
4. If you're like me, and you're not comfortable with putting up your own image as a profile picture, you can always go on Tumblr or WeHeartIt and find one. Just make sure to check the copyright.
5. Don't use fake pictures. Unless it's something that you like (i.e. hair, an outfit, shoes, etc), try and avoid using it on your profile. It'll make you look like a liar.
6. Your header should go with the profile picture. If the picture is light, the header should be dark.
7. Please make sure to change the hideous cow picture you get when you first create an account!
Now the bio.
1. It has to be less than 2000 words, so only put important information on it.
2. Feel free to put interesting facts about yourself, but avoid any information people don't really care about, like siblings.
3. Don't give out too much personal information, like age or school. It's not safe.
4. Filling up the bio with solely quotes is a bad idea. It makes you look plain and dull.
5. Be as friendly as possible, it'll attract more followers.
6. Don't write hate about a certain group of people on it. It's rude and hurts others a lot (i.e. "I hate Muslims," or "I'm a homophobe".)
7. Don't use emojis. The system won't accept it, and your bio will end up being cleared, and you'll have to start over.
8. It's not always the best idea to do 'follow backs'. Trust me, 86% of the time, you'll end up being unfollowed.
9. It's always a good idea to put your personal interests, like music, books, and T.V. shows. Probably, if someone comes across your profile and sees that you both have something in common, they'll give you a follow.
10. Don't start writing until you have a suitable amount of followers. It'll create a platform for you.
11. Get to know your followers. DM them, post on their message board, read their stories, etc. Thank them for following you, and they're likely to return the favour by reading a few of your stories.
