Ashley turned her head to the door as it opened. Looking at Dustin from the floor, she reached her arms up for the snack he held.

He smiled, handing her the family sized bag of barbeque chips, her favorite, that were there from the last time she was supposed to come over.

"Thanks Dusty. You really know how to make a girl feel better." Ashley teasingly smiled.

Dustin sighed but his smile remained as he sat back on his bed. "Will you ever stop calling me that stupid name?"

"If Mrs. Henderson can then so can I. Are you ever going to stop calling me Peaches?"

"One, that's not how it works. Two, no I'm not but it's not a stupid name." Dustin huffed, crossing his arms.

"Yes it is! I can't even remember why you started calling me that." Ashley grumbled as she struggled to open the chip bag.

"You don't remember ravaging my pantry for them? Mom had gone through her baking phase and had a ton of peaches, it was your first time trying them and you loved them. And boom! New obsession and new nickname." He had a smug look knowing that he had made his point.

Ashley pondered what he had said for a minute. "Well, yeah..."

Dustin snapped his arm out and pointed at the girl. "See! It's not a stupid nickname." He grinned in satisfaction and re-crossed his arms.

Rolling her eyes, the Moore girl spoke through a mouthful of chips. "Yeah, whatever... Dusty." She hid her smirk by stuffing more chips in her mouth.

"Oh shut up!" Dustin laughed, throwing his pillow at her.

Ashley choked from the impact. She coughed out laughs with wide eyes.

Dustins laughing seized and his eyes matched the size of saucers. "Shit, you okay?" He reached out tentatively but stopped as she nodded.

"I'm good." The wheeze was barely audible as she nodded vigorously.

After a while Ashley could fully breathe again and Dustin was at ease. The boy had become invested in a comic while the girl sat wondering what was next. Deciding to speak up she looked at the boy. "How was your day? Anything interesting at school?"

"Hm? Oh it was alright. Mike didn't show up today." He closed the comic and put it to the side, giving his full attention to the brown eyed beauty.

Her face scrunched in confusion. "Why? Mrs. Wheeler usually makes him go."

"He didn't go through with the plan. El is gonna stay there for a while. Apparently 'bad men' are after her."

El?
