My dragon mate

Chapter 1

Everything in my life had changed the day Natsu took a flyer from the request board. I never expected it to happen, but when it did I can honestly say I was never the same.

It was raining in Magnolia and I was sitting at the bar complaining to Mira about the last job me and Natsu completed. I had my head on the counter with a flood of tears coming from my eyes. Mira simply giggled and said that I should've been used to it by now. I agreed but it didn't stop me from complaining about it.

The doors burst open and Happy came flying in. I had raised my head and looked at him questioningly.

"Luuuucccyyyy" he yelled until he reached me.

"What is it Happy"

"We're going on a job!" he gave me a big smile and I had to smile back because even though it was a crappy day I had rent to pay.

"That sounds great! But where is Natsu?" I looked at the door expecting to see the pink-haired pyro but there was nothing there.

"He's back at our place packing. The job will take a while since it is pretty far away. You gotta go home and pack too. Make sure to pack some of your dirty panties." He had his paws over his face while he laughed at me. Raising my fist, I hit him over the head. He was on the ground unconscious, and I stormed out.

About an hour later we three were in a wagon. I was patting Natsu's back while he threw up out the window. I mean the guy was a dragon slayer and E.N.D but was easily beaten by a moving vehicle.

"Hey Happy I never thought to ask but what exactly is the job?" Happy was sitting across from us stuffing his face with a mackerel.

"Oh, it is an easy one all we have to do is beat up a small dark guild that is terrorizing the town of Pocodo. The best part is the reward. It's 1 million Jewel!" I thought my ears had stopped working 1 million jewel just for that? Dollar signs filled my eyes, and I did a little happy dance. My rent would be covered for months.

I heard a groan from Natsu, and I laughed again.

After a long 6 hours of a wagon ride with a continuously puking Natsu and a fish smell coming from Happy I gotta say I think I was happier than Natsu to be out of that carriage. We had to wait around a bit for him to get back to his normal self. We were just outside of the town, and I could tell that something was off about the place. There was a dark air around the town which I could only assume was because of this dark guild that we were sent to take down.

"What's wrong Luce?" Natsu whispered right into my ear from behind me.

"AAHHH" I felt blush all along my body and I jumped 10 feet away from him breathing roughly.

"Don't do that Natsu or I'll kick you" He put up both of his hands in surrender, but his smirk told me it wouldn't be the last time that he'd do it.

"Come on we have to go meet the guy who posted the flyer for the details." Natsu grabbed my hand and started running full force into the town dragging me behind him. He was rather oblivious to the darkness or was simply ignoring it but knowing Natsu it was most likely the former.

He had finally slowed down when we got to city hall, but my arm felt like it had come out of my socket. I yanked my hand out of his and smacked him over the head.

"Dummy! My body is not a toy that you can drag around." I heard Happy laughing behind me.

"Let's go you two" I walked up the broken cobblestone pathway into the broken-down-looking building. Since I had been dragged through the whole time, I couldn't really see anything, but now from what I could see the town was decrepit. Looks like they needed our help badly. An old man opened the door before I could even knock. He was a lanky guy that had a bandage on his cheek.

"Finally, you two have arrived! I have been waiting for so long. Come in. Come in. I need you to get briefed right away." I heard Happy grumbling about how there were actually 3 of us and not two while following the old man led us into a room that had a large table that had many chairs around them. We sat down, Natsu was sitting beside me closer than he probably had to be which I found kinda weird. The old man sat across from us.

"My name is Ian Walker. I am the mayor of the town and we have been plagued by a dark guild named Night Slayers. They came here around 5 months ago and have ruined the whole town. Tradesmen won't come here anymore because they are scared to. No one will leave their homes because they are terrified. It took a lot of finessing just to get the request out" Poor guy he was crying.

"Where can I find this scum, I will burn them to ashes" Natsu had his fire fist out with a serious but anticipatory look in his eyes.

"W-well they are in the east part of town. They have taken over the old storage house. You can't miss it. It's the largest building in the whole area. Thank you so much!" He was still crying while we left the room.

"I wonder why no other wizards have taken this job. It doesn't seem all that difficult." I questioned mostly to myself.

"Who cares. It'll be easy money and then we can eat till we burst" Natsu laughed and kept walking eastward. It was getting dark which I guess would be helpful to try to go in undercover. But who was I kidding Natsu would go in fire blazing and we'd probably end up blowing up half the town. I sighed and rubbed at my head with both of my hands.

"Lucy, are you feeling ok? Do you want a fish?" Happy held out a fish to me but I just shook my head.

"Natsu maybe we can tone down the fire and try to keep the town intact." I gave him a pitiful smile.

"What are you talking about I only do what I need to do to beat the bad guys. It's not my fault that my flames are too powerful." He covered himself in fire and gave me a big smile making me sigh again.

We had found the building it was a large wooden building with no windows. I couldn't hear anyone inside and I turned to ask Natsu if he could hear anyone but found he and Happy were no longer standing beside me.

"Oh crap. Where'd they go." I look around and when I noticed a blue and white tail above me on the roof. Great, they are on the roof how am I supposed to get up there? Well, I guess I'd try a different approach. I knocked on the door to the storage house. It took a second but then it creaked open. I could only see a large red eye looking at me. A shiver went through my whole body. Scary. Forcing a smile on my face I asked.

"Hello, I am new to town and am looking for work. I have worked in a trading guild and am really good." My smile was starting to break. But then the door opened further showing a fat guy with many teeth missing.

"Aren't you a pretty thing. You got a job, but you will have to provide other services to keep it." He reached out to touch my face. Right before that though the roof caved in, and a fireball came through it.

"If you dare touch her you will die." Natsu looked ready to kill he trudged toward the man his hand still near my face, but it was shaking.

I was so busy looking at Natsu I didn't sense the person behind me nor did I sense the cold steel that went through my side until it was too late. Putting my hand on my side I saw my blood oozing out of me. I looked back up to my two friends.

"Natsu, Happy." That was all I could manage to say before the world went dark.
