V O T E + C O M M E N T"Duckie," Selena's grandmother said smiling brightly back , rising from her office seat as Selena approached her with Aria in her arms. "I wasn't expecting you back so soon."Clementine beamed pulling Selena in for a hug."Hello little one, did you miss grandma?" Clementine cooed at Aria taking her from Selena's arms.
"Hey grams," Selena said.
"How was London? Did you and Aubrey talk things through?" Clementine asked,
"I think London made things more difficult," Selena sighs.
"How so?"
"Do you remember Benjamin Holloway?" Selena asked,
Clementine's silver brows knitted together as she removed her reading glasses. "Benjamin?" She asked, "Oh yes I do, pretty eyes?" She smiled,
Selena crossed her arms over her chest, "grams he said that he's been speaking to you-"
"Well on and off really, such a sweet boy to check up on your ol grandma." Clementine giggled, kissing Aria's cheek while her fingers played with her diamond tennis necklace.
"What about the letters?" Selena asked,
"Letters?"
"Yes grandma the letters that he's been sending me for over-"
"Ah the letters," Clementine sighed, "Duckie don't be upset with your grandma, but with how upset your father was with you two being together I just hid them away." She said, "to my surprise he kept on sending them and I eventually hid some away ultimately forgetting about them." Clementine confessed, never did she think that she'd ever have to speak about this with Selena.
Clementine knew how strong of a love Selena and Benjamin shared but they were both so young. Clementine figured that with Selena getting married to Aubrey the last thing on her mind would've been Benjamin. "Grandma why, why wouldn't you tell me this?"
"Your father might have been a sweetheart to you but he wasn't so much when it came to pretty eyes or your mother after awhile Duckie." Clementine said, "Besides it was best that you and him kept apart until everything blown over." She said reaching her hand out towards Selena only for Selena to back away slightly.
"I expected momma to do this but never you," Selena said shaking her head in disappointment. "Did grandpa know?" She asked,
"Of course he did, he was the one to organize it all." Clementine said,
"Great, and here I was believing that my own mother was the only one I had to watch my back on." Scoffed Selena,
"Oh Duckie please," Clementine waved her palm in the air dismissively walking around her desk reclaiming her seat with Aria in her lap. "You were going through enough with your father, on top of everything else Matteo convinces Ben's own father to ship him off to the military just to keep you two apart." She tried to reason,
"Grams,"
"Oh god then Justin came along with his...ways, then you having your little time out in rehab. Then Aubrey, I never thought they would matter." Clementine continued,
"That was not your decision to make!" Selena yelled, turning away from her grandmother to gather herself. From Aubrey to Benjamin to now her grandmother, Selena could feel herself unraveling at the seems by the minute.
"You're right and I'm sorry Duckie," Clementine said, as much as she didn't want to give Selena those letters but the last thing Clementine would ever want was for Selena to resent or hate her.
Clementine sighed, swiveling herself around in her chair. She opened the wooden cabinets finding the clear medium sized tub that held what her granddaughter desperately wanted to see. Clementine slid the tub off of the shelf turning back around in her chair placing it on her desk. "Selena,"
Selena turned around to face her grandmother, watching her remove the lid revealing hundreds of unopened letters. Selena inched forward reaching her hand out, gently brushing her fingers along the envelopes. "Duckie, why dive back into the past? You're married, you have your own family to worry about right now." Clementine said watching Selena lift a letter out of the many.
She was right, it killed Selena how right her grandmother was but she need to know. Selena needed to know what Benny has been writing to her over all these years. "I know, I just, if I don't get through my past I'll never be able to continue with my future."
With that being said Clementine watched as Selena walked alway with the clear container filled with Benjamin's letters addressed to her in her hands.
