Apologies

I hear your words, 

I know their meaning,

I understand.

Yet I don't know if they're real.

You say you're sorry.

You say the pain is over.

That you've changed.

That you'll do better.

That you'll make our life better.

You promise you're done.

Done with the anger.

The rage.

The hate.

You promise things will be different.

I hear your words.

I know their meaning.

What I don't know,

Is if you'll actually change.

Or if you'll just slip back into

Your old ways

Anger returning

Forever locked in the unbreakable chain

Of forgiveness

And hurt.
