summary: in which you're whipped for a certain barista.
"(Y/N), you're whipped." "I know." "Whipped as hell." Your best friend, Donghyuck whistled, before wiggling his eyebrows.
You scoffed, taking a sip of your 2nd drink of the day. Your best friend who found pleasure in your misery didn't need a response... at least, this time.
Donghyuck and you were seated opposite each other on small couches inside the 'Sunshine-afe' cafe - a local business.
Usually you would go to Starbucks, but when Sunshine-afe opened, you and many others, bestie included, took a liking to their food and drinks offered at the place. Better quality, and cheaper (well, majority of the products). What's not to love?
However, you had also taken a liking to a certain barista by the name of Jaemin. Or so his name tag read. First, Jaemin was just a regular pretty face, but when he slid you a free (F/F) muffin and gave you his umbrella due to you forgetting yours one afternoon, you grew a B̶I̶I̶I̶I̶I̶I̶I̶G̶ small crush on the oblivious barista.
From that day forward, you made a silent promise to yourself to visit the cafe at least once every week - unless you were extremely busy. It was close to your house, anyways.
"You've got heart eyes! (Y/N) and Jaemin sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-"
You seethed, "You're lucky he's here, otherwise I would've strangled you." "What if I liked that? Or what if he-" Donghyuck's voice faded as you stared at Jaemin with those same 'heart eyes'.
The target of your affections wore a white jumper underneath the standard dark blue apron that had the logo embroidered on it, with black slacks, and was currently pouring milk into a cup.
His beautiful pink lips, his dark coloured eyes that seemed to shine no matter what, his contagious laugh, his words pouring out like honey, Donghyuck was right — you were extremely whipped.
Eyes flickering from the now empty pot of milk to you, Jaemin sent you a warm smile.
He smiled.
At you.
'Wait.' You froze, processing his actions before screaming in your head.
"-ay attentioon! Wait, did he just smile at me? I'm stealing your boyfriend, (Y/N)!" Donghyuck was obviously joking, making you snicker.
"Gosh, what is this, a drama?" Your best friend sighed, "(Y/N), it's been months since this all started and I think he likes you back!"
"What makes you say that?" You blinked, furrowing your eyebrows. Donghyuck breathed in, about to start his justification.
"I've never seen the dude, in these past few months of you being a simp, give his OWN umbrella or give free food to anyone else. There's literally a few umbrellas that anyone can borrow or donate, and yet, he gave his. To you. See where I'm heading with this?"
You let out a hum, believing your best friend for the most part - but you were still somewhat skeptical, "He could just think I'm a challenge, and then throw me away the moment I show romantic interest."
He furrowed his eyebrows, before snapping his fingers, "You're overthinking it. You've seen him reject people bluntly, but nicely! Just trust me on this, you know how judgey and picky I am with your dates."
The two of you knew that you were the one to make the decisions, but your best friend was there to help avoid potential future hurt or threat, and advise the best for you.
"Fair." You shrugged, before flinching as Jaemin made his way to your table.
Sending you both a wave, the barista tilted his head to the side, "Could I join you two?"
"Yes-" "They do!" You and your best friend simultaneously said, making you both look at each other with confusion.
"I mean, yeah, sure, cool, whatever." Donghyuck shrugged, as you directed your gaze to the empty couch next to you. This was a habit of Jaemin's to join either of you two if one; he was on break, and two; his best friends weren't present in the building.
Jaemin blinked, before letting out a chuckle and sitting down next to you as your couch was closer. Or maybe for another reason, you hoped.
"So what brings you guys here?" The barista started the conversation, with you two continuing. It was like this for a few minutes, until you three started cracking more jokes and making more noise.
"Okay, so then Jisung started walking like this," Jaemin stood up from his chair, not realising there was a customer behind him.
Opening your mouth, you were about to warn your crush about the people behind him - but it was too late.
The customer had accidentally bumped into the boy, making the barista lean and fall in your direction.
Holding your arms out to catch him, you looked him in the eye, "I've got yo—!"
...
...
...Oh.
Oh no.
Donghyuck gasped at the sight of you and Jaemin kissing.
You weren't able to catch him, but his hands were leaning on the wall behind you, thus effectively trapping you.
"Ah— I'm sorry about that!" You broke away, horrified at the realisation that your chances of dating Jaemin was being tossed away, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I just wasn't expecting to kiss you before I confessed... you know?"
...What?
"Huh?" You dumbly let out, blinking as you tried to process Jaemin's words.
He let out a grin, "I really like you, and if it's okay with you, I'd like for us to go out on a date."
"I..." It was difficult for you to think clearly, you could even hear your heart thumping loudly.
"They'd love that!" Donghyuck cheered, speaking for you as you nodded. Others in the cafe who had witnessed the interesting event had followed, and basically became hype-people for you and Jaemin.
"Yeah," You breathed in, the grin on your face only becoming bigger, "I'd really love that."
"That's so cheesy!" Your adopted daughter, Suran giggled at her father huffing proudly.
Jaemin grinned, holding onto your hand as you picked your daughter up, "It was cheesy, but I wouldn't change a thing about that day if I could go back."
At your husband's answer, you gave him a peck on the lips, "Me too."
"Ew!"
