Andy escorted me out of the infirmary saying that the praetor wanted to meet me. I learned really fast that the guy wasn't shy. He could ramble on about anything and still make me laugh.

But my mind kept drifting away from Andy's babble to the sights of New Rome and the shops that lined the street call Via Praetoria. I mean this place has everything from weapon stores to toga rentals.

At the end of the road there was a two story white marble building that towered over the rest.

"Is that where we're going?" I ask staring up at the intimidating structure.

"Yep, that's the Principia."

The door was forced open and out walks something way more scary than the building. She wore a purple cloak over her Roman armor, the sign of a leader. Her dark eyes sized me up as her black hair moved in its own breeze.

"Thank you Andy, you can go back to your post," he gave me one last smile before walking away.

The inside of the building was more spectacular than the outside. A glittering mosaic of Romulus and Remus decorated the ceiling. Almost everything was made out of marble, even the velvet drapes looked top of the line.

In the middle of the room stood a long rectangular table made out of wood. The table was covers from end to end in maps and papers.

Avoiding the two big chairs at the front of the table I sit in one of the normal looking ones.

The girl came in behind me sitting the one of the chairs I purposefully avoided. Her posture was stiff and tired, but that menacing look never left her. Two dogs, one gold and one silver, seated themselves by her side.

"What do you remember?"

I shrug. "This is a Roman camp for demigods, Gods and Goddesses exist and we are their children, and there was something about a guy named Terminus?"

She rubbed her eyes. "Yes, he is the God of boundaries. He protects our city borders."

"I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name?"

"I am Reyna, praetor of the 12 legion," she said holding her chin a little higher.

"I'm Clover Daniels, nice to meet you."

"Clover, do you know a guy named Percy Jackson or Jason Grace?" She asks barely acknowledging my "nice to meet you".

"No, I've never heard of either of them," my eyes wandered the room taking in every detail.

"Have you been claimed yet?" I didn't like the tone of her voice. It sounded like I was being interrogated for something.

"No, but am I in trouble or something, because you sure are asking me a lot of questions?"

Her questioning continued. "How old are you?"

"I don't know, sixteen?"

"How don't you know your age?"

I was getting mad. "Because I'm adopted!"

"Shawn!"

A tall guy with long dark hair walked into the room his bright green eyes caught me off guard. They were too sensitive on his tough guy looking body.

"Yes," he said with a hint of sarcasm.

Reyna caught his tone , piercing into him with her dark eyes. "Take her to see Octavian."

I got up not bothering to push my chair back in. "It was nice being interrogated, maybe next time I could play the interrogator?"

I got a smile out of both of them, faint, but definitely there.

"Clover Daniels, I might actually like you," she said.

I let Shawn lead me out of the building, looking one last time at the praetor. She was now slumped in her chair, head in hands. She wasn't just tired, she was worried about something.

After walking a few moments in an awkward silence, I decide to ask my question.

"Is she always like that?"

"She has been since I got here a couple of weeks ago."

I nodded my head. "So, who's your Godly pareny?"

He rolled his eyes. "Mercury."

"Cool! Do you have special powers, like the power to fly or transport places?"

He stopped walking and turned to look at me with annoyance plain on his face. "Why do you ask so many questions?"

I place my hands on my hips. "So that I can know the answer."

"Well stop!"

"How am I suppose to get the answers if I don't ask the questions?"

He walked away and then turned around and came back. "You are so aggravating!"

"And you are so rude!"

Shawn growled and walked faster down the road. I smile and walk after him. Brushing through my long blond hair with my fingers, I realize its knotted and caked with mud. Even worse, I had been walking around like this all day, in front of Andy, Reyna, and Shawn!

We came to a circle of temples.

"That one is the Temple of Bellona, Reyna's mom," that explained so much. "That one is the Temple of Mars Ultor," he pointed to a temple decorated like a cemetery. "That one is the Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, that is where we are going."

For the "best" and the "greatest" it sure lives up to its name. The temple was open with a marble alter in the middle. Above the whole ceiling was decorated with gold while the floor was covered in beautiful Latin mosaics. Towering over everything was the statue of Jupiter holding a lightening bolt.

A kid with blonde hair stood at his feet in front of the alter. He was sickly looking tall but frail and is baggy clothes were slipping off of his body.

"Octavian, this is Clover Daniels, she wishes to join the legion."

Octavian turned around holding a dagger in one hand and a stuffed animal in the other. He jumped at the sight of me, dropping both the dagger and stuffed bear.

"You're her! You're the mistake!"

I stumbled backwards shocked at what he just called me.

"Hey man," Shawn said taking a step towards him. "Read the augury."

He dodged Shawn. "Do you know how dangerous your birth is?" Octavian's crazy blue eyes flashed.

Shawn put his hand on Octavian's shoulder. "Read the augury so we can leave!"

Reluctantly he turned around picking up his dagger and placing the stuffed animal on the alter. He sliced open the bears belly spilling its stuffing everywhere. After muttering a few words, he faced us with a pained grimace.

"She is accepted into the legion. Her cohort will be assigned at evening muster, but she is your responsibility!"

I ran from the temple, not stopping until I was back to the road we came down.

How could he say I'm dangerous? What did he mean by my birth being a mistake? Why is the kid crazy looking?

All these questions circulated in my head as Shawn jogged up.

"Hey, you okay?"

I hid my face, whether out of embarrassment or shame I don't know. "No, but you don't really care, do you?!"

He went to open his mouth but I cut him off. "I don't want to aggravate you, so will you please leave me alone for a while?"

I run up the main road, leaving the city and circle of temples behind me.

"I'm not a mistake. I'm not a mistake," I keep repeating to myself as I head for the camp.
