Was Shawn flirting with me? I am not sure. Was I flirting with Shawn? Guilty is charged. When I swung Two Face at him (yes, I named my sword Two Face) I wasn't really trying to hurt him. Which is pretty pathetic since he didn't hesitate to hurt me.

"Hey, I was worried about you," Andy says sitting down next to me at our table.

I smile sweetly at him. "That is so sweet Andy."

"You're bleeding," he says poking me in the arm.

"Yeah, I accidentally ran into someone's sword," Shawn chokes on his drink, laughing at my explanation.

"Well, then, I have something for you," he reaches into his pants pocket. "A band-aid!"

"Oh my gosh! Thank you," I lean over, wrap my arms around him, and plant a wet one on his cheek.

He laughs and places the band-aid over my cut while Shawn chokes for real this time. "Pathetic," he says under his breath, thinking that I won't hear him.

"What was that? Jealousy maybe?"

He snorts at me and continues to eat his lunch.

"So, who's sword did you run into?"

"Mine," Shawn replies without hesitation.

"You cut her?" Andy is staring daggers at Shawn as he puts his arm protectively around me. Oh, no, this is not good.

Shane's eyes watch Andy closely, including when Andy's arm landed on my shoulders. "Yeah, I did... in battle training," that statement came out more as a challenge than a statement.

"Why would you do that?" This time Andy stands up, accepting Shawns's challenge.

Shawn stands up after him. "Because I was training her."

No no no, this is seriously not good. We haven't even started the quest yet and we are already bickering.

"You don't slice up girls!"

I look around at the campers who's attention has drawn towards our table.

"Guys-"

"Why not? She didn't hesitate to slice me."

"Guys stop-"

Octavian sits across the room, a victorious smile on his face. He is getting what he wanted, us crashing and burning.

"Because she is a girl!" Andy takes a step towards Shawn, who is returning Andy's death glare.

"Back off Andy!" Shawn shoves him.

I stand up, disappointed in both of them. I put my hands on their shoulders and force them back into their seats. "Are you guys crazy!?"

They don't reply to my question. They are too busy glaring at each other to notice me talking to them. I smack them both on the back of the head.

"Guys, I'm serious! All you're doing is proving them right," this gets their attention. "They don't believe in us, especially Octavian. They think we are going to fail at the first thing that is thrown at us. And the bad part is, I am starting to think they might be right. We are acting like we have never heard of manners or silent disagreement."

"She's right you know," Dakota hiccups. "You guys are making quite the scene."

They finally take in their surroundings and look down in shame. "You guys are ridiculous."

I sit on the couch again, wanting to run back to the cabin, but knowing if I did Octavian would win. They don't know how much pressure I am under and them going off the way they did just added some. I can tell by all of their faces that they expect us to fail. Why wouldn't they? We are the underdogs of the camp. Andy is a son of Apollo who has no healing or nursing abilities whatsoever. Shawn is a stuck up centurion who is a jerk to people. Me? Well, I'm the mistake of the camp. Yep, that pretty much explains us, one mistake, one loose cannon, and one malfunction. I am starting to wonder if volunteering these guys for a quest was such a good idea.

Reyna stands at her table. "I announce a toast," she holds up her gold goblet. "To the success of the quest for Proserpina, may your journey be blessed and the gods be on your side. To our future heroes!"

The campers all bellow out Reyna's last phrase, before chugging down their drinks.

"It is time for your group to depart."

I don't like how she said depart, it is like saying "time for your group to die". Andy, Shawn and I stand in unison, taking in the crowd who has begun to cheer again.

We walk solemnly to the entrance of the camp. The freeway tunnel I had come through when I was being chased by griffins. Though, I had to yell at the guards before they let me pass.

"We cannot give you much to help you on your quest, but the least I can do is supply with the things you should already have." Reyna reaches out, handing me a book bag full of stuff. "Since you came here only two days ago, I thought we would give you some change of clothes, some money, and some other stuff that could help."

I look at the bag, then to Octavian who is smirking in the background. "Thanks, Reyna. This means a lot to me," I say, slinging the pack onto my shoulder. She only nods once, before turning her backs on us.

"Betray me or betray Rome and we will tear down the other side of your blood line Greek by Greek," Reyna says, not looking back.

Those words send a cold shiver down my spine, because she means it with all her heart. If I betray her, Greece will no longer exist.

I feel my shoulders sag a little as I walk into the tunnel. Jeeze, for a girl who supposedly likes me, she sounds a lot like she hates me. Is it my Greek blood? Ah, heck this is going to be a long two weeks.

Shawn opens the steel door and we all step out into busy traffic. Now used to the organized and structured society of New Rome, my mind is spinning with the chaos of the normal world. Shawn grips my arm slinging me into him before I am hit by an on coming car.

"Watch out!" Shawn hisses at me. "Do you even use your eyes?"

"I'm sorry! I forgot about the chaos!"

Shawn is so bossy. He doesn't understand mistakes or tolerate them. You'd think that he isn't even human anymore, just a Roman monster.

"Andy you help her cross the traffic, I'll run ahead and check things out."

My first thought is wow he's just trying to dump me on Andy and my second one is what things are there to check out.

Shawn darts across the road and out of the traffic tunnel. Andy turns to me and smiles.

"You really get under his skin," he chuckles.

"Yeah, he gets under mine too, so I guess its kind of like payback."

He continues to smile and takes my hand that is hanging at my side. "Stay close, I don't want your clumsiness to get you killed."

I scrunch my nose and stick out my tongue. Yep, I know I can make some nasty faces. Andy sticks his tongue out at me before leading me from the safety of Rome.

My black combat boots catch on the asphalt and I stumble. Andy reaches behind me, picking me up bridal style and running me the rest of the way across the street.

"Hey!" I say when he puts me back on my feet.

"What? You would have gotten hit!"

"I can take care of myself," I huff and walk after Shawn. Andy follows silently behind me.
