Kiera POV:
"Oh my gosh Jenni." I say crossing my arms, "Can you not?"
My 7 year old sister tried getting up clutching her stomach. "I'm sorry" she wipes a tear from her eye "You just look so-"
"Ridiculous" I say closing the bathroom door on her face. I can still hear her laughing and wonder if this dress was right.
"Whatever" I think to myself and grab my cardigan. "I look hot"
Raven POV:
"Ew ew ew". The concealer was getting everywhere. I grab a towel to put over my white crop top. Not only was it hard to find foundation that matched my skin, but now I had to apply it. And the only knowledge of this that I had was the collection of YouTube videos I had watched for my failed attempt to look decent for 9th grade homecoming. I sigh giving up and move on to the eyeliner.
"Ravennn" my mom calls from downstairs and I grab my new red tote bag and boots. Elmer tried to make me wear pumps but I almost backhand slapped him.
"Are you kidding me!" I had yelled. "Its the middle of winter and below freezing"
"And so?" He said. "Put those hand warmer things in the shoes. Oh and try not to slip on the ice"
"Why I outta" Tristan stopped be from tackling his small body to the ground.
After a long string of curses and threats we finally decided I'd go with a safer pair of boots.
I grab them and quickly get out the front door leaving my mom shocked at the kitchen table. She didn't know about my new transformation.
I hear her calling "Raven Marie Johnson get back in here right now!" but ignore it and continue. I have more things to worry about than the obviously ignored dress code and my moms fear of me joining and underground prostitution ring.
Almost a street down I start feeling the effect of the winter air. The thin jacket that I have does nothing to protect me and I start wishing I really did have some hand warmers.
Just then a grey Corolla speeds towards me.
"Oh heck to the freak no" I say turning the other way. "Ain't nobody gonna kidnap me today". I inch towards my house but trip on one of the cracks in the sidewalk and fall flat on my face.
A loud laugh booms behind me. I recognize it anywhere. I'm so thankful that you can't see me blush under all this concealer. Dayton comes up next to me and helps me get up.
"Uh thanks" I mumble.
"No problem" He's still laughing. "You seem to have some trouble with your shoes huh?"
"Haha so funny" I roll my eyes. He's not looking so cute now "What are you even doing here?" It's then that I notice just how much my shirt exposes my midrif and I try to secretly cover it with my hands. Dayton notices and looks down. Then away, as if he doesn't know where to put his eyes now and answers blushing.
"Oh um", he uses his hand to comb through his hair. Ok maybe he's starting to look cute again. "I thought maybe I could pick you up". He looks like a little kid with his big jacket and red nose from the cold. Snow is in his dark styled hair and I can't stay mad at him. I accidentally break into a smile and he does to.
"Whatever loser" I say laughing "Take me to school". We walk to the car laughing.
"Geez you know maybe I could just leave you here" he says thinking it over. "And maybe you could freeze to death"
