Raven POV:
I can smell his cologne. Its surprisingly good.
Kevin smirks as I slide into my seat next to him."Well well well" he says sliding over. I ignore him and look ahead. "Look who decided to dress up today. Don't tell me you did this for me." The people in the back seat snicker. One of Kevin's little minions yells out
"Yea Raven. You looking extra saucy today if you don't mind me saying."
I breathe in. Be nice. Be nice. Be nice. I turn to my side batting my eyelashes in a way I've never tried before. Kevin looks confused."Haha Kevin. That's really funny. I swear if I had your intellect and charm I wouldn't even need high school." He makes a face as if trying to figure out whether it was an insult or a compliment.
He gives up and just says "Whatever freak"
I shoot back with a "Sure thing barbarian". The girl next to me whisper something and I feel sick. I hate talking to these people. Usually I just ignore them and pretend I don't hear anything. But I have to make myself known here. Then they turn and smile at me.
"He's such a guy isn't he?" one of them finally says. She's blind with piercing-and I mean PIERCING blue eyes. I don't know what to say. My mouth goes dry.
Dayton then enters right before the bell rings signaling the beginning of Culinary class. He smiles at me a little and sits down. The other girl who's friends with the blond bites her lip and stares at him smirking.
She whispers something else to the blond and they both laugh checking him out. I swallow the hint if jealousy in the pit of my stomach. Mr. Kean is still at his desk not paying attention to us. He's not ready to start class yet and that's ok with all of us.
I turn to my side and see Kevin looking at me with a look I can't sure make out. He looks away as soon as I catch him. I look to my right and see the two girls looking at my boots in awe not trying to hide it. I squirm in my seat. I turn to the back of the class and see Dayton. His eyes piercing as if burning a hole through my head. Unlike Kevin he doesn't look away when I catch him. He stays staring with a really intense look in his eyes. I don't know what to do so I just stare back. He smiles a little almost like he's in pain and looks down eventually. I can't stand how uncomfortable I feel.
Mr. Kean finally stands up. I sigh in relief. "Ok class today we'll be making tamales." I put on my apron and put on my gloves. The apron feels cold on my midriff and I shiver a bit. "We'll be working in partners," he continues. Immediately the blond walked up to me leaving behind her friend. The friend huffs and rushes to Dayton side.
"Heyyyyy" she says adding two syllables to the word. "Want to be partners?""Um" I stutter. I know she's one of the "populars" but she's being so nice. Its sending me over the edge. Could a change in clothes and makeup be that life changing? "Sure?" I finally say
"Cool." She hops up and down in a Bob of happiness and cheer. "And btdubs I loveeeee the shoeess." She adds in another extra syllable. "Let's get cooking." She whisks the cooking spoon around and smiles a huge smile. I feel like throwing up. This is the girl that just last week told me that if I died nobody would even care. Now she's teaching me tips on how to make sure my tamales don't burn and talking about her weekend to me. This was an amazing start. I turn to Dayton who is keeping off the affections of the blond's friend. I almost laugh. That is until I catch sight of Kevin looking at me again. This time blushing when I see him. This is such a weird day. I can't wait for it to be over. I end up hoping everyone else is having a better time than me.
