The house was silent, I couldn't even hear snoring. I inhaled deeply and waited for the signal before slowly getting off the creaky bed. I was almost to the door then stopped, tip-toeing to the bed to grab the still full bottle of gin. I heard Mia snort and I turned to look at her, holding the bottle in my hand and smiling childishly at her. Mia rolled her eyes me I quietly made my way back over to her. As she walked down the steps, I sat on my rear and scooted myself down the stairs. Once Mia reached the bottom I was still scooting my way down the stairs. She closed her eyes and slammed the palm of her hand to her forehead. I stood up, wiping the dust off my pants and making a run towards the door. The two of us got out, the cold biting through our hoodies.
We heard movement from inside the house and quickly ducked behind a few fluffy bushes. Mia snatched the bottle of gin out of my hands and put it on the ground. I glared at her, picking it back up. Once the movement stopped we quietly crawled out of the bush and onto the road. We stood up, making a run down the street. Was this smart? Probably not.
I panted, stopping to hold my knees. Mia looked back at me and blinked at me with question written all over her face. I popped the cover off the bottle of gin and drank some. Mia stared at me in complete silence.
"What? I was thirsty," I mumbled.
Mia walked towards me and grabbed my wrist, dragging me down the street as I drank more of the gin. I smacked my lips together, feeling the warmth of the alcohol run through my body. It hit my stomach like a ton of bricks. It was only a small bottle, a few sips for myself. We came to a convenience store. The two of us walked in, checking out pockets for some money. Mia pulled out a twenty dollar bill and picked out a sandwich. I screwed up my face, it looked like it had been there for days. I grabbed a pack of candy and gave them to her. She nodded slowly and went up to the counter, checking it out. She grabbed a pack of cigarettes for me with what little change was left. I thanked her, walking out of the store with her. We walked over to a picnic table perched outside the store.
"What's going to happen when they figure out we're gone?" Mia asked.
I shrugged, "hopefully not bother us again."
"It was a little easy, don't you think?"
I nodded slowly and took the other half of the sand which that she offered me. I gulped it down, almost gagging at how bad it tastes. I inhaled sharply and ripped open the bag of candy. We shared the candy, staring at the road nervously. I opened the pack of cigarettes and placed it between my lips. I felt Arounf, realizing I had no lighter. Mia whistled at ms, tossing a new lighter at me. I caught it, igniting the flame and inhaling the smoke.
As I blew out the smoke I said, "it was easy, but they're not that bright."
Mia chuckled, "you and your attitude could've got us killed."
I shrugged, "what was I supposed to do? Whine and whimper?"
Mia smiled, popping some candy into her mouth before handing me the rest of the bag. I folded it up and shoved it in the pocket of my hoodie. I took another sip of the alcohol to rinse the bad aftertaste of the sandwich. It was probably going to give us a bad stomach later. I stood up, leaving the half empty bottle of gin on the table. I shoved the cigarette pack into my bra and the lighter as well.
As we started walking towards the road, we heard the sound of loud music and a fast car. I arched a brow, flicking up my hoodie and brushing my hair behind the hood. Mia did the same thing, I inhaled a few puffs of the cigarette, looking at the ground as a car zoomed by. Mia moved closer to me. The car halted to a stop and stayed there for a few second. Colby got out of the car and looked at me. I raised my head, dropping the cigarette and smushing it beneath my shoe. I glared at him. He walked towards Mia and she stood beside me. She was ready to fight if I was. Although she was shorter, and tinier than I am she could put up a fight. I clenched my fist. Colby grabbed her wrist and I raised my fist to punch his. I hit his eyes, raising my foot and kicking him away from her. Mia rubbed her wrist.
"Ouch, you bitch that hurt," Colby yelled.
"No shit I just punched you it's not supposed to feel like roses petals and angel wings," I rolled my eyes.
Colby stood up and held his eye, letting his hand fall to his side. I arched a brow, noticing it was already bruising. I grinned, unlocking my fists and watching him stubble. His friends helped him stand and one of them lunged. I didn't move.
"What is your fascination with these two? Just let them go," a guy with a man bun snapped.
"Yes, listen to chewbacca over there," I rolled my eyes.
Mia snorted, her giggling getting progressively worse. I looked at her, slapping her raised hand for a high five. I shook my head and walked past them, Mia following after me. We walked down the road and listened to the cursing and swearing echoing through the streets. The two of us laughed, shaking our heads. I noticed a car on side of the road and beat the window out with my elbow. I unlocked the car and hot-wired it. Mia got in the drivers seat and I sat in the passenger seat.
