Keabetswe Nnthabeiseng Mokwena ( born 18 July 2000 ) is a South African Actress , dancer and uprising singer who was born and raised in the city of Johannesburg but up until her debut role in 2018s Black Panther she had remained out of the spotlight.
The story of the 20 year old getting the role of the mourning Jamila Stevens is a rather sweet one. Growing up Kea's mother Rebaone got her daughter into dance and drama classes for the girl to try something new apart from her passion in Netball. The girl loved it more than expected. During the 6 years the girl took the classes her talent in both grew tremendously. In 2017 Kea stared as Bonnie Parker in a Johannesburg Theatre musical adaptation of Bonnie And Clyde which caught the attention of Kevin Fiege and Ryan Coogler who had been scouting for their Jamila Stevens when they came to watch the last performance and loved it more than they expected.
Keabetswe first appeared as Jamila Stevens in 2018s Black Panther. In the film Keabetswe plays the role as the only daughter of the antagonist of the film Erik Kilmonger/Stevens who mainly appears in flashback which were mainly with her costars Michael b Jordan who plays Kilmonger and Jasmine Guy ( known for her role as Shelia Bennett in The Vampire Diaries ) who plays Lindiwe Stevens the grandmother of Jamila and the mother of Jordan's Character. Her roles get more in-depth during her time throughout the films.
Her role as Jamila won her a best breakout role at the 2018 MTV awards.
Her character as Jamila Stevens is set to expand in her upcoming mini series which she is set to star along side Dara Renè and Xolo Mariduena who are both playing Jamila's best friends from the comics, Davina and Fern 'Fernando'.
Fans are excited and eager to see this show because Jamila hasn't found out about what actually happened to her father and mother. Kevin Fiege mentioned at an event in the previous year that the Jamila series will not only just focus on the past life with her friends and family but he teased that her bond with the Wakandans will be shattered.
She stared along side one of her best friends, Neveah Romero who plays the witch Harlow Mustapha in the recently popular Disney+ Original Series WandaVision, where her character assists S.W.O.R.D. in the investigation of the missing cases.
The girls career continued to grow faster than most as she joined the cast of the Netflix Original Series; Cobra Kai playing the role of one of West Valley's returning residents Kailene 'Lena' Crawford. Her character became a fan favorite despite her character not being part of any dojo she caught the hearts of all of the watchers.
She is also set to star alongside her Cobra Kai costar Tanner Buchanan and Tiktoker Addison Rae in the gender swapped reboot of the 80s film She's All that, He's All That as a new and original character.
