Violet Undone - The Accidental Mate

Chapter Nine

"Now that the females are out of the way let's take this to the board room." Henry motioned for the men to follow him. He knew he needed to talk to his son before a decision was made. It was a precarious situation. If he flat-out denied Talon's supposed proposal then he would put more tension between the two territories. But he also needed to take into consideration what had happened today between Mathius and Violet. Derek will have no knowledge of what has happened when he resurfaces.

They walked through the doors behind the reception desk and to the left towards the glass partitioned board room in the center. Henry sat down at the head of the table and motioned for the others to sit. Mathius chose to stand by the door. Henry looked over at his son's primal with laughter in his eyes. He knew Mathius didn't trust them and sitting would hinder his movement abilities. "Mathius please sit your looming isn't helping," Henry asked. Mathius snarled but did as the grand alpha asked. Talon laughed from where he sat at the other end of the table "That isn't helping your case either." Henry finally boomed his authority.

Talon immediately choked on his laugh and sobered. Henry looked at the two fuming men and sighed. He then outstretched his hand to ask for the papers Mathius still held clenched in his hand.

Reluctantly, he passed them over and set them on the table before Henry. When Henry glanced quickly through the contents of the document then he dialed a number on the phone's keypad. "Yes Grand Alpha," Amber's voice said through the speakerphone. "Amber, do you think you could spare a moment from Violet to bring in some refreshments to the board room?" He waited and heard two female voices faintly talking. Mathius's ears perked up at the sound of Violet's small but faint voice in the distance saying sure. Then Amber returned "Yes Grand Alpha I can do that. I will be down in a few minutes to bring in a fresh carafe of coffee." Henry hung up the line, looking towards Mathius then over each face in front of him. He sighed again before lifting the first sheet of the document to read over again.

Henry read through each word and paragraph looking up occasionally to look at Talon. He was on the third page when Amber showed up with a small cart bearing white coffee mugs, a carafe of coffee with creamer, and a bowl of sugar cubes. She moved around quickly setting cups down in front of each man seated and then set the rest in the center of the table. She had even brought a platter of muffins and donuts. Henry smiled at her as she bounced around clearing the stale air with her positivity. "Anything else Grand Alpha?" she asks exuberantly in her simple fashion. Henry chuckled and shook his head "No Amber thank you, my dear." She turned to walk back out the way she came "Wait." Talon piped up "Where is Violet?" he asked sharply.

Amber shivered as she turned to him and to everyone's surprise snapped "None of your business." Mathuis' brows rose in surprise at her tone. He had never heard her speak in anything but a shy meek girlish tone or an over-excited annoying tone. He was impressed. She sensed it because she turned to him now "What? I may be a unicorn at heart and soul but I can stamp a snake out if I feel the need to." Mathius just shook his head and laughed. He looked over at Henry in amusement and noticed the laughter in his eyes, he was trying not to laugh. Talon shot up out of his seat and started for Amber but came up to a large broad muscular chest in his face. Mathius had moved quickly to block his descent on Amber. She may annoy the shit out of him but he was her alpha's primal and he protected his own. He growled as he towered over Talon by almost a foot. "Damn right it's my business you little glitter bitch." he seethed.

"ENOUGH!!! Beta Talon if you can't contain yourself I will let loose my son and believe me when I say it will not be pleasant in any way." Henry boomed as he rose from his seat and moved to grasp Talon's arm forcing him back towards his seat again.

"You threatening me?" Talon sneered forgetting who he was now speaking to. "YES, I AM BETA. I AM GRAND ALPHA HERE AND YOU WILL DO AS YOUR TOLD." the sheer force of Henry's resolve and alpha dominance made Talon recoil in fear. He sat back down shaking.

Henry looked around Mathius to Amber who had tears streaming down her cheeks. He went to her and smoothed them from her face as he tenderly kissed her forehead "My Sweet Amber. Go back to Violet. Maybe you could order you, girls, some lunch it's on me." Henry said softly. Amber nodded her head and left the room quickly.

" I will not warn you again Beta Talon that my niece is not yours and remains in my protection until I and no one alone determines what it is best for her." Henry barked as he walked back to the head of the table and started to dial yet another number on the phone's keypad. Two rings on the line later and a deep male voice picked up "Hello?" Talon's face whitened at the voice. " Grand Alpha Dermot it's Henry Markstien." He replied looking over at Talon and pinning him down in a heated stare. "Good Morning Grand Alpha Markstien, I assume you are calling in regards to the matrimonial proposal I sent over this morning at my son's request?" he stated flatly. " That and the matter of your son's conduct in my office towards my son and niece." Henry waiting for the Grand Alpha to speak up. "My Son?" He questioned furiously "What has he done now?" Dermot snapped. Talon's face whitened even more. "Well, he assaulted my beloved niece. I believe you may know of her...she is Violet Everston. He also offended my son's primal Mathius in the altercation as he came to her protection in my stead." Talon's mouth dropped "Father that is not what happened?" he whined. "Shut Up!!" Dermot barked on the other end.

Mathius smiled widely again this time he was looking straight at Talon. Henry cleared his throat and continued "This is a very serious matter Grand Alpha. I have received your request but regretfully I will need time to deliberate a marital proposal between the clans. If you can understand my predicament. I do not wish to offend you in any way. Maybe we two should meet to discuss this at a later date when I can make an appropriate decision." Henry stated regally. He always had the talent to diffuse a difficult situation. Dermot took a few minutes of silence as he contemplated the request before he let out a deep laugh "But of course Grand Alpha Markstien take all the time you need. I am positive you will come to the right outcome where this is concerned." Henry smiled and let out a breath. "And I have sent my son's Alpha over to collect him promptly." Talon rose infuriated that his father had been pulled into it. "Sit down" was all Henry said before he motioned for Mathius to detain him. And Mathius was all but enthusiastic to comply. He rose and grabbed Talon by the shoulder, jerking him down into the seat. "Is this the type of man you wish me to see? the man you wish me to sign Violet off to? You are not presenting yourself nobly." Henry scolded. " She is mine. I have wanted her since I had seen her when she was eighteen." Talon stated, " You may think that but I also have it known that she has refused your advances not once, not twice but if I am counting correctly six times." Henry retorted back at him. "She is not property or a thing of possession. And has a mind of her own as to what is best for her." Henry looked to the door as a beautiful raven-haired woman walked in.
