I had read about some primal beings being able to track people down from miles away but I hadn't been close to one. "You're a tracker?" I asked curiously. He smiled with a chunk of bacon between his teeth. Then continued to chew without answering. A few minutes went by and a few more slices of bacon were shoved in his mouth before he answered "In a sense yes. What do you know about gryphons?" He asked as he leaned back in his chair. I shook my head and honestly said "They are beautiful, regal, and strong." I remembered the pictures in the textbooks. That was my first impression of seeing their depictions. I was enamored of them.

"I'm sorry I offended you Alpha. It wasn't my intention to start my day off this way. I normally try to keep out of Derek's way if I can." I looked towards the window as new tears threatened to fall. I needed to be strong and calm down. '' He doesn't like me much" I stated quietly. He watched the play of emotions dance across my face. He could see the remnants of the tears I had shed earlier. He also looked at my neck to see the damage he had left from his fangs. I suddenly felt very small in this chair. Sitting in front of a man I had known my whole life but didn't really know. I really didn't know if I could trust life with him or gryphon. And he must have sensed my sudden shift in mood because he let out a large sigh as he got up off his chair. I just sat there looking at the window.

Mathius crouched down in front of me and turned my face to his. "We got off on the wrong foot didn't we little one? I am Mathius" I laughed as the tears fell. Wiping at them with the back of my hand and taking another deep breath. "I just...don't know what it is about me that offends you...Derek... so much when all I've ever done is tried to be good, and loyal to him." That was the most honest response I could give him right now. He searched my face some more before he reached out to wipe the tears from my face. "It wasn't you. I was in a bad mood before I even hit the stairs. And there is nothing about you that offends me little one. Derek on the other hand needs a swift kick in the ass" I hiccupped on a sob and unfolded my hands from my lap. I looked down at them, they were shaking.

"I never met any gryphons before today, I mean I suppose I have once with my Uncle Henry and never known but..." I confessed. He sucked in sharp air "Well we are moody idiots. And can be very possessive of our things and people. Do you not have kin to know?" he asked as I shook my head quietly. "Uncle Henry, I mean Grand Alpha Henry saved me when I was a little girl...my parents and their clan were massacred." I sat in the chair quietly just focusing on my breathing. He moved to get up. "I'm an idiot. I should have realized who you were but Derek barely speaks to me these days." He said under his breath standing in front of me scrubbing his face with the palms of his hands. "You're not an idiot. Just need to work on your temper a bit." I said trying to hide a smile by biting my bottom lip. " Can I at least look at that mark I gave you on your neck? I have a first aid kit in the drawer at my desk. I nodded and started to stand up "No little one...Don't move." That was all he said as he gently sat me back down. I closed my eyes and waited. Next, I could feel him gently brush my hair aside. " Tell me what you remember of your kin? I know you are not entirely human and not a gryphon either" I opened my eyes to watch him as he inspected my neck. "How. How do you know I am not a gryphon?" I questioned him. "Your scent." He said "Humans have a distinct muddied scent like fresh clay. Gryphons have a stormy air like scent. You on the other hand smell like the sweetest mixture of firewood and lilacs." Then he slowly bent in and softly kissed the spot where he scratched me. I gasped and involuntarily reached up to clasp my hand on his cheek. His lips were hot but gentle. "My saliva will help it to heal faster" he whispered in my ear. Then he opened the first aid kit and found a band aid. Carefully he put it over the spot. I never opened my eyes but waited for him to let me know when he was finished. Part of me felt so emotionally drained I probably could have fallen asleep in this chair. But reluctantly I opened my eyes slowly to find him just watching me. I licked my lips nervously then cleared my throat. "Thank you," I said softly. He stroked my hair and nodded before getting up to move around the desk. "May I take my leave now?" I asked as I slowly rose from the chair to stand. He nodded his head slightly turning his head over his shoulder to look at me. I gave him a small smile "You know. You are very different from Derek." I whispered before I turned to leave his office.

I half expected him to come after me for something else but he didn't. He just let me leave and only asked me to close the door behind me when I left. Only an hour into being at my new job and I had managed to anger one of my new bosses, no not anger. He had said he was already angry when he came in this morning. I suppose I was just the outlet for his rage at the time. But still, you would think he could control his emotions better but then again he was bonded to Derek. Or maybe he just didn't care. I walked quietly down to the front reception to where Amber was working. She looked up from her computer screen to smile at me as I walked up to her. "How are you doing Vi?" she asked empathetically. "I need a coffee!" I said as I laughed and sat down in the vacant office chair beside her.

"Hey. Don't let big ol' mister saucy pants get to ya" She giggled and patted me on the shoulder. I looked at her and laughed. "It's not entirely him." I stated. I was used to Derek. I mean he touched but never like Mathius was today. He wouldn't dare to, he only touched me when he was grabbing me roughly to make me look at him or to hurt me. This was a different kind of touch altogether and it made my insides like jelly.

" Well, I can tell you that with the mood he was in today it would seem he had another run-in with the Luna Lydia." She whispered closer to me before she laughed again. I smiled and gave her a questioning look "Why do you say that? Does Mathius and Lydia not get along like her and Derek do?" So much I didn't know. "Oh well..." Amber let out as she looked to the door to see Alpha Mathius leaning against the door frame. I saw the fear flash across her face and then she turned her attention back to her computer screen.

I signed in exasperation "He's behind me again, isn't he?" I said quietly taking a deep breath before I turned around in my chair to check. Amber just glanced sideways at me "Yep" was all she said before the front door pushed open and the last person I wanted to see ever walked in.
