I whimpered slightly when he yanked my head sideways. Rapid breaths rose and fell from my breast. "Are you challenging me, have you finally grown a nerve?" He seethed into my neck as he moved forward, trapping my small frame between him and the wall using his knee between my legs as leverage. Grazing one of his fangs down from below my ear to make a small red line just slightly beside the vein. He hadn't broken the skin but it burned like he had.
Amber came forward to try and calm him down but the damage was done. I raised my hand to stop her from getting involved before saying calmly "Why would I do that?" I whispered with my eyes squeezed shut. Stupid. Stupid Vi! I screamed internally as I flexed my hands in and out of fists on the wall. He just loomed over me inspecting my pale slender neck leaving one threatening fang as a warning. He was inches from being able to plunge those serrated teeth into my neck and end me, that is if he wanted to. If I was a lucky woman he would do it further down my neck right in the hollow where it met my collarbone. The spot known as the Mate's Mark. I opened my eyes, tears slipping out and down my cheeks. I never meant for him to see me cry but he was downright terrifying right now. What has gotten into him today? His eyes shot to my face as a warm salty tear slid down my neck into the tip of his fang. Another slid after it as he searched my face. He swiftly tilted his head and used his long slender nose to catch it before it was lost under the collar of my blouse. I whimpered softly as his nose brushed the hollow "What is your name, little one?" he asked as he scraped his wall support hand down to brush his thumb across my wet cheek. I tried to collect myself and took a few deep breaths. Why was he asking me my name like he had never met me before? Then it hit me...this was his primal. Derek's other half had surfaced and was in charge today. I had never been around Derek long enough to see him shifted. " Violet," I said, letting out the air I had been holding in, leaning my forehead against the wall. I wanted to disappear into that wall. I shouldn't have baited him. I should have known it would make him angry. I was used to human guys, not shape shifting primal beings.
He held me still by cupping his free hand on my neck where his mouth had been and half turned around towards where Amber stood. His eyes were a mix of deep blue and vivid green color as he stared at the cowering small blond-haired woman. I wasn't sure but I got the feeling he was working on calming himself down before it exploded on a poor innocent girl. While he stood there he gently released my hair and ran his hand down its length which reached the middle of my back just above the curve in my spine. I was sure he could feel me trembling beneath his warm stretched hand. He rested a palm on the small of my back and began rubbing his thumb in circles as he spoke in a more level tone. "Get out of here. And Amber...." he paused to look at me still pressed against the cold hard wall motionless. "Next time you won't get a warning." Amber nodded her head profusely as she stepped forward to collect me from him but stopped when he growled lowly at her. Then he swiftly turned back around to me. He moved his hand once again to my waist and turned me around to face him. This guy doesn't know the term personal space I swear because he was back to looming over me with his face pressed to my neck again. I raised my head to the ceiling while watching Amber under my lashes, hoping he would just walk away now.
He pulled and turned my chin to make me look into his emerald green eyes that seemed to be fading into an aqua blue color now. "I'm hungry little one." was all he said. I nervously licked my lips "I don't know what you like." I tried my best at being calm. He just chuckled while taking a deep breath of my scent in "Breakfast for now Violet." He lightly kissed the middle of my forehead as he brushed back stray strands of my dark caramel-colored locks from my face. His eyes where searching my face and then looked me over before turning and walking away down the hall.
Once he was out of sight I collapsed against the wall. Amber rushed forward and hugged me tightly. "I am so sorry Vi. Are you okay?" She held my face in her hands as she smoothed the new tears from my eyes. I took a deep breath and clasped her hands on my cheeks, pulling them downwards and in front of us. "I'm okay. Are you okay?" I shuddered to look into her face. She nodded, turning us towards the stairs to leave when Derek's voice boomed from inside his office " You have 20 mins to get my breakfast little one before I come looking for you." My breathing picked up as I hesitantly looked towards his office door. Then I looked back at Amber with rounded eyes. I whispered "How am I supposed to know what he wants to eat again?" Amber suddenly giggled and started to say something when we heard him behind me again "Coffee black, Toasted everything bagel with blueberry cream cheese and a side of eggs with bacon. Scrambled eggs." He must have sensed I was holding my breath because he leaned into me again, his nose brushing the edge of my ear. "Just say yes my alpha, Violet," he whispered a whisper that spread straight to my core and waited for me to answer him. When I didn't answer for a few minutes he grasped my chin firmly and turned my head sideways to look him in the eyes.
When I looked at him I didn't see the anger that was there before. It was replaced with humor and a bit of something else I wasn't sure about. I searched his face with my amethyst blue eyes before replying " You got it. Breakfast in 20 minutes." He chuckled "You forgot the last part," He said as he smoothed the knuckles of his hand across my cheek to clasped his palm around my neck. I gritted my teeth and took a deep shuddered breath. I knew if I didn't say it he wouldn't let me go, so I made a compromise "Yes". He shook his head and whispered in my ear "Yes my alpha, say it Violet" I just nodded closing my eyes "Yes... Alpha." I continued.
He growled with a smile on his face. His eyes partially glowered like glaciers in the sun, leaning his forehead down to mine he chuckled "Challenge Accepted! Little One"
