My heart was pounding loudly in my chest.

,, Miss Ha Hardbroom.. I ..I I'm terribly sorry about what just happened! I .. I .. I didn't mean that. "I stuttered, ashamed.

Without a word she let go of me.
The loud whispers of my comrades ceased as the black-clad witch sat up in her full height in silence.
Without looking, she swung her hand just once and the shelf was back in its place.

Our teacher also brought the broken glasses back where they belonged.

She stepped into the middle of the room and let her notorious gaze wander through the rows in slow motion.

Nobody dared to say a word.
I put a hand over my mouth and giggled.
That served them right.

When her beautiful eyes met mine coldly, the laughter stuck in my throat.

"Youuu", she started and I saw how the corners of her mouth jerked up mockingly.

"You have the honor of being detained with me all year round."

I blinked my eyelashes in disbelief.
,,What? You can't do that!", I interjected indignantly.

,, I ... in your place would be a little careful, Elisa Sprucehill. "

"And what if not?", It came provocatively from my lips.

With her head held high, she hurried a few steps towards me and loomed threateningly in front of me.

"Then you'd wish it was you. And better be careful not to double your post-office hours!"

The blood boiled inside me.
I was incredibly pissed off.
Ironically, in the last year of school, when it was all about everything, this witch had to give me detention.
When do you think I should study?

I had to see that she lifted this sentence.

,, Oh yes? I don't remember reading anything like that in the Witchcodex.", I blurted out angrily and took a step in her direction.

I ignored the strong tingling in my stomach as best I could.

"It's not in our codex either, you cheeky brat!", HB hissed back and also came closer.

My breathing quickened when we were only a few inches apart.

"It's called a cheeky young lady.", I corrected her, struggling not to sigh.

The tingling in me got stronger and stronger as I bridged the last few centimeters and now came to a stop right in front of her.

Her hot breath brushed my face.
I bit my tongue.
Wildly determined to face her, I looked into her deep lakes.
I swallowed.
How could one be so beautiful and yet so cruel?

"How about a duel?" I whispered hoarsely.
"If I lose to you, I'll be ready to serve with you for the whole school year. But if I win, you, Miss Hardbroom, will lift the sentence again!"

My teacher slowly leaned down to me.

"Eli!", She purred so softly that no one else could hear it.
The butterflies raged in my stomach when I heard this one word from her mouth.
I wanted to hear it again.
However, I knew that would not happen.

"If I win, you won't just be detained with me all year round. You will also be part of my new experiment. ", HB explained to me.

"When and where should our fight take place?" I asked, barely audible, hoping that she couldn't hear my trembling.

"Immediately after school I'll be waiting for you in Miss Cackles office. There it will show which of us two is the stronger. ", She whispered and ran her cold long fingers gently over my cheek.

Goosebumps spread all over my body.

Panting, I pushed myself away from her and glared at her.

What was that supposed to mean?
Had she forgotten we were still in class?

"Collect your ingredients and start brewing!", Demanded the woman who had once stolen my heart brusquely and walked back to her chair without further ado.

I sighed in frustration.

Why did I have to fall in love with her of all people?
She wasn't interested in me anyway, let alone the same feelings as me.
Then why this touch?

I shook my head quickly so as not to fall into a deep hole any more.
I got everything I needed for the drink from the respective shelves and stomped listlessly with the desired glasses to the teacher's desk.

Then I grabbed an old kettle from the cupboard, a cutting board, and a small knife.

Without letting myself be distracted by Hardbroom's cynical remarks, I began to finely chop the roots of the horn thistle.

Today I had to give everything!
I had to win against HB!
If I lost, there was no going back for me.
