Tine's POV - Earlier that day
"My life is over" I whined, holding my head in my hands.
"For shame, Tine. You should at least consider who you're talking to. Don't even try to outscrew me in patheticness" groaned Tian, sprawled out on the couch across from me, a wet towel on his face.
We were both dressed in matching black tuxedos. Tian wore a silver waistcoat, while mine was black, like Type and Tul's.
We were also somehow simultaneously drunk and heavily hungover from Tian's so-called bachelor party which had started three days ago and ended at 5 a.m. that day.
It was less a party, more a wake in memory of our lost freedom. We had been drinking in misery, not in celebration.
"No offence bestie, but I don't want you as my brother-in-law" said Tian, his voice slightly muffled behind the wet towel.
"None taken. I'm not exactly jumping for joy about my sister having to marry you either. She's a lesbian, you're gay and our parents are idiots"
"At least you'll be far away from all this. Earn and I, on the other hand, will be hounded to pop out a demon spawn before our first wedding anniversary in true Sopasitsakun tradition" said Tian, his voice cracking from the mere thought of having to do it with a girl.
"Far is an understatement. You know how they say the US has four seasons? The four seasons in Alaska are Cold, Colder, Freezing, Frozen. My snow blower has more miles on it than my car. I can't go back there again" I groaned, a wave of nausea hitting me as the last highball from four hours ago sloshed in my stomach.
"So it's a bit cold. Big deal. It is still warmer than my love life" said Tian, miserably.
"A bit cold? Blue balls in Alaska are quite literally blue balls - they're two lumps of ice. They don't have fridges to freeze food. They have them to keep food from freezing."
"My sausage and meatballs are ready to shrivel up and fall off the minute I say "I do". There's no point having them if I can't be with him" said Tian, sniffing a little.
I felt for him, I really did. Chief was a great guy. But I was too depressed for myself.
"Tian, Tine, are you guys ready for the photoshoot?" said Tul, popping his head in at the door. Tul was Tian's younger brother.
He was still in high school and despite his pleading, had not been allowed to join our Wed & Dead squad mourning session. We didn't want his worldview to be that jaded at this age.
He was still a tad miffed about it, but looking at us now, with our bloodshot eyes, grey pallor and chapped lips, he sent a secret thanks to the heavens.
"Give us a minute or ten, would you? We will be out as soon as we can stand" said Tian, waving his brother away.
Tul shrugged and popped out. A minute later, Type pushed the door open and strode in.
He stared at us with a not unkind eye. As my elder brother, he was strict but fair and caring.
"What is all this? Pull yourselves together. I know you're happy, but celebrations need to be measured."
And oblivious. Type was not known to be perceptive.
Tian sat up with a groan and propped up his head at the temples.
"Here, have this hangover cure. The photographer is waiting" said Type, and handed us both a glass each.
We didn't ask what the contents were. Not knowing made it easier to swallow.
