It has been a few weeks since I've seen Childe. Of course, it wasn't a bad thing at first but I would have thought that after a few days, he would have appeared out of nowhere again. But now that he hadn't I started to actually grow concerned for the man. I had gone to ask Zhongli if he had seen Childe but he said that he hadn't seen him either.
The past week I had been doing my daily routine with no issues at all and somehow it felt too good to be true. There have been times when I thought I saw Childe but it was just my imagination. I don't know why I was searching for him since whenever he was around he made me annoyed in some way.
After a long day of doing commissions, I decided to go buy some fish from the harbor so I could make myself some food today instead of buying something already made. I walked past the blacksmith and went up to buy the fish I needed. After paying for the fish and a few ingredients I started walking back home excited since I don't usually make food for myself so I'm excited to try out some new recipes.
"...boo!"
Scared out of my wits I nearly hit the man who appeared behind me due to being frightened only to recognize the familiar Childe who I had not seen in a long time. When the shock died down I felt angry and frustrated.
"Good to see you again! How have you-"
Without letting him finish his sentence I kicked him in his stomach. "What's wrong with you!? You can't appear behind someone like that! Especially after being gone for so long!"
I let out furiously and I turned around and started walking to my own house. Surprisingly Childe didn't follow me with apologies instead he just stood there not running after me, nothing.
I opened my door and took off my shoes and started cooking. With a few failed attempts I finally figured it out and finished my food for the day. I got to taste my own cooking after months and I hadn't failed completely, the food isn't terrible but it's definitely not on the same level as other food I've tasted. After finishing eating I cleaned up my dishes and changed clothes and got ready for bed. I had fallen asleep quickly but I woke up to a nightmare but I didn't remember what had happened in the dream, only a small image stuck to my head of some figure in my arms taking their last breath, it wasn't long after I noticed a tear falling down my cheek. The nightmare was so bad I actually cried while asleep that's odd.
I sighed and tried to just forget the nightmare I had woken from and it didn't take long for me to start feeling sleepy and I fell asleep again only to wake up to someone knocking on my door. Slowly I stood up and tried to make myself less like a monster who hasn't eaten for years. Finally, I opened the door to notice Childe in front of me.
"Morning y/n. Can I talk to you a bit?" His tone was more serious than normal but also nervous. His expression was the same as usual, bright and ready to go.
"Sure, but first how did you know where I live?" As far as my memory goes I don't have a memory of me telling him where I live or seeing him see me enter my home. I notice Childe not expecting that specific question but he doesn't seem more nervous about it.
"Oh, I just happened to see you go there once! Anyway, I have a job I need to do and I decided to ask you If you wanted to come with me! It's nothing serious I promise I just thought this would be a good opportunity for us to do something together!"
"You want me to accompany you to do your job? Why won't you do it yourself?" I crossed my arms questioning this man. Sure I wouldn't mind but I do have my commissions I need to get done and also my home to pay for.
"I want company since the job will take a while." He scratched his neck as he answered me
"Take a while? I'm sorry but I have to do my commissions and keep my home in check so it doesn't get destroyed." I pointed towards my place which was currently nicely clean for once.
"Oh don't worry I can pay you for this if that's what you're concerned about! As for your home, It won't go anywhere."
"Fine, I can come with you. But if we get in trouble you're dead." I responded coldly as if in a way to threaten him that he really didn't even show a sign of nervousness or fear just like some cold-hearted killer.
"Also what is this job anyway?" I asked
"I'll explain it later" He smiled genuinely at me and held his hand out for me to take. I reluctantly took it. His words sounded rather suspicious but now we've started heading off on a job of which I had no idea what it was about. I was feeling worried about it but Childe seemed to be calm and happy for a reason so I guess I should feel safe around him..at least this once.
