The car journey to the high school was silent and the tension was palpable. I just wanted to hug him close and tell him it was all going to be ok but my 14 year old brother probably wouldn't appreciate that being as we were sitting in the car outside the building he'd spend the next four years of his life.

"Just be yourself and they'll love you nearly as much as I do."

"Thanks Dotty." He doesn't say it back. He hasn't since Mum left.

He grabbed his bag that I'd prepacked with pens and pencils etc and three note books. I had no idea what he'd need but I'd help him get organised once he had his schedule and knew a bit more about his classes.

Just as he shut the door and walked into the building I realised that he'd left his phone on the car seat. The more I thought about it, the more I worried over it. What if he needed to contact me and can't? It would mean going into the school and potentially embarrassing him.

I sat and stared at it for a while before my mind got the better of me with too many possible scenarios of why he'd need his phone. I parked the car in the car park and got out nervously. Now I had more of an idea of how Gray felt. God I didn't want to be judged by shitty little teens who thought they were all better than each other. I smoothed my hair away from my face and glanced a look in the car window to see I was presentable in my jeans and T-shirt. I could probably pass for a senior not a twenty-one year old sister looking out for her brother.

I just needed to find the office and explain he'd left it and might need it. Hell he's probably going there anyway, I might be able to catch him.

I ran up the steps to the main entrance and quickly walked through, keeping my head down to avoid any attention coming my way. I saw the sign just above the door for the main office and darted in that direction as quickly as I could. Turning the corner I almost ran straight into what I hope to be a teacher because the man was like a mountain.

"Oh god, I'm so sorry." I mumbled quickly and looked around to make sure I hadn't caused any form of scene. So much for in and out like a frickin ninja!

"No problem." He said quickly before stopping and inhaling deeply then looking down at me with his eyes narrowed. I saw his hands ball into fists and all his muscles seemed to tense. Ok so what he meant is that it's definitely a problem and he was about to give me hell. "What are you doing here?" He seethed and I took an instinctive step back at his tone. What the hell was his deal?!

"Umm..." think mind, think! "I'm sorry but less of the attitude would be great!" Ok, not what should have come out of my mouth. The guy must've been about five maybe six years older than me and was definitely over a head taller than me. He could probably snap me with his pinky finger.

"Excuse m—" I watched as his face turned a shade darker and his eyes dilated like he was about to unleash something I really didn't want to be on the receiving end of. Shit!

"Oh god, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean... I wasn't looking...I'm trying to sneak in!" Oh my god, I'm actually making things ten times worse every time I open my stupid mouth. Thankfully no one else seemed to have rounded this corner yet but that also meant it's just me and this hot, massive guy alone in the corridor.

"You're...sneaking in? To a high school filled with kids?" He stepped closer almost like his body told him to and mine stepped back on impulse.

"Sorry, can I start again?" I didn't let him answer and just waffled on regardless "I'm not new, not a student, not trying to sneak in or cause mayhem. It's my brothers' first day of school, we just moved here from the UK and I just really want his day to go well and then I saw that he left his phone on the car seat. I thought it would be ok and that you know, he shouldn't be using his phone in school, but then I thought what if he needs to call me or let me know something? What if he gets beaten up by a bunch of bullies? What if he does something reckless and gets into a fight? I just thought I could sneak in and pass him the phone in the office!" I sighed a breath of relief and he looked more annoyed that I'd just unloaded on him than when he thought I was breaking into the school.

"So you don't go here?"

"No." What part of here for my brother was he not getting?!

"I really don't think you should be in the halls when school starts in five minutes. Take the phone and go." He was so blunt. His tone was almost scary and it made me want to run and cry.

"Luke!" I heard being shouted down the hallway and then a blonde, happy boy jogged to us with a massive smile on his face. "I mean, Coach Lucas." He corrected once he saw I was there.

"What Sam?" The massive man who I assume to be Luke replied. He almost angled his body as if to stop Sam from seeing me but then stopped himself from coming closer to me.

I smiled as Sam looked at me then to Luke before sensing the clear tension in the air. Before he could say another word I watched in horror as my brother walked from the office doors and saw his mouth drop when he saw me. I shook my head slightly and signalled with my hand behind my back that I had his phone.

He narrowed his eyes at me and then walked as quickly as he could past me, nudging me and grabbing the phone harshly out of my hand that was still hidden behind my back. Gray then stormed off in the direction of the entrance and I hung my head knowing I'd just knocked our relationship back ten paces.

I was vaguely aware that I still had two people in front of me but I just needed to go. I turned quickly on my heal said a quick sorry again to the person I now know to be the coach and then walked as fast as I could without running back to the car.

It wasn't even 8:30am yet and I'd already managed to cause a scene with a teacher but more importantly, I'd messed things up big time with Gray!
