Whatever moment we were having was quickly ended by a sound I can only describe as a thud. Said thud was accompanied by a pained groan. Eric quickly grabbed a knife from the kitchen, heading towards the door. I followed. I stood behind him as he opened it, the sight in front of me horrific at best.
(Gore TW)
His body was scarred, to say the least. He had burns all over, some bleeding. His clothes were nearly completely charred. There were cuts on his hands and back. He looked like something from a horror movie. He didn't look like he'd made the night, either.
"I don't know what we can do." Eric sighs. "Hospitals are out of the question, none of us are healers of any kind." He rubs his forehead, stress lines showing.
The man in front of us groaned again. Eric moved closer to pick him up.
"I'm gonna try and get him to the couch. Julian, do you mind getting a tablecloth on there?"
Julian nods, grabbing one from the storage closet.
Eric places him down on the makeshift hospital bed, blood getting on the cloth. He starts digging under the sink for a first aid kit. We aren't professionals, but it was the least we could do to at least try. It wouldn't do much, but even a small chance of success would be good.
Eric wrapped bandages around the worst parts first. You could see how bad the gashes near his shoulder blades were. They looked intentional, man made. His hands had similar looking marks. We couldn't tell if he was awake (or if he'd ever wake up again), but he was definitely in pain if the groans were anything to go off of. In some spots, the burns looked black.
It hurt seeing someone in that condition. Eric looked like he was trying to keep it together, Julian did too.
By now, half of his body was covered in gauze and ointment. Whatever sick fuck had caused it deserved their own circle of hell. Even Julian didn't look like he'd seen anything like it.
We sat there in dead silence as he started to stir. He groaned again, this time a bit louder.
And then the unthinkable happened. I couldn't believe my own damn eyes when I saw it.
His wounds had started changing. Luckily, for the good. It was slow and gradual, but small changes could be seen. His hands had started to scab over, no longer bleeding. His darkest burns had started lightening, almost healing. The lightest marks became nothing more than mere scar tissue.
Eric went to grab a glass of water and some painkillers, just in case.
And then it happened. He shot up, eyes open. By some stroke of a miracle, he was awake and alive. None of us could believe our eyes. The unthinkable had happened.
"Not once in my four hundred years have I seen something like that..." Julian mumbled
It seemed like there was a better outlook for him now that the worst ones had scarred over. The healing had stopped, but he looked far better than earlier.
"Can you speak? What happened?" I ask.
He shakes his head. No. He probably can't write well either thanks to his hand injuries.
A voice breaks through for a second. It's almost like I'm really hearing it, but nobody's spoken.
By the looks on their faces, the guys heard it too.
"No need to be scared, I am not a threat." The voice says. The man in front of us points to himself. "It's me speaking, by the way."
This almost sounds like a bad "walked into a bar" joke. A werewolf, a vampire, and a law student walk into a bar with a half dead telepath.
