— LAST TO KNOW.

in which innocent sagittaria is madly in love with seemingly unattainable dovima.

SAGITTARIA FLORES had always been a good girl — innocent, mannerly, studious, prudent, successful, it was always a pleasure to be around her. But she hadn't gotten all of these good qualities on her own. Innocence, prudence, success, joy — those were all characteristics that perfectly described Ivana, Sagittaria's older sister, and her biggest confidant. For as long as she could remember, Sagittaria had always admired Ivana, and aspired to be like her. Sagittaria had idealized her — everything that Sagittaria was, said, thought or did, she had learned it from Ivana. Of course, with that came her reputation of being known by everybody only for ''being Ivana's sister''; but Sagittaria didn't care. To her, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing; but even if it was, she was slowly beginning to step out of her sister's shadow by letting everyone know that she was an amazing person on her own.

DOVIMA NURMI was the complete opposite — probity and charm didn't go with her; it was rather obstinity and sass that truly defined her. She didn't do it out of spite, though — it was just that she liked to do as she pleased, even if that sometimes meant misbehaving. Still, Dovima didn't mind being called a misfit, because she knew that most of the time she behaved like one; and she liked the duality (or rather the dichotomy) between her and Ivana, her best friend. She loved to know that whenever she got into trouble, there was always going to be someone to help her get out from a sanction by her side. Dovima loved Ivana in her own way, though most of the time, her conceit came through when she tried to show it. And, even if often, she acted too high and mighty to admit it, Dovima had a soft, tender side, and she could've never imagined a life without her best friend.

Sagittaria and Dovima had met at a very young age for both of them, and almost accidentally — when Sagittaria arrived at the new neighborhood, she was terrified; the last thing on her mind at that time was making friends, while the first thing was staying as close to Ivana as she physically could at all times. When Dovima and Sagittaria saw each other for the first time, it was practically magical — neither of them had planned on befriending each other, but from that very first encounter, something deep inside them told Dovima and Sagittaria they'd need each other for the rest of their lives, and that their friendship would be strong and long-lasting.

And so it was, at least for the most part. Dovima, Sagittaria, and Ivana practically grew together. Dovima lived right next door to the Flores residence, thus it was customary to see her at home playing with the two girls all the time. The three were practically conjoined — despite being just infants, they had a clear feeling of need for each other. And like that, they lived happily.

And I say lived, as in past tense; because like every other favorable thing in this life, it had come to an end. Puberty slowly began to strike for Dovima and Ivana, and so they slowly began dissociating themselves from the younger girl. They didn't do it out of malice, though — it was just that their needs were beginning to change, their interests no longer coincided; and even though Dovima and Ivana obviously still treated Sagittaria with respect, whenever the three of them sat down to talk, they most of the time ended up in a heated argument, or awkwardly ignoring each other.

Now six years had passed since the three girls had met each other for the first time. They were no longer going through the heavy hormonal changes that puberty brings, but this stage of their lives had definitely affected the friendship, or rather, the union of Dovima and Ivana with Sagittaria.

But Sagittaria wanted more than anything in the world for everything to return to normal. She just wanted to go back to the old times, where Dovima and her pretended to be mom and dad, and have Ivana be their daughter, and Sagittaria could just reach for Dovima's hand, and look at her with googly eyes, and blame it on the game.

And apparently, Dovima wanted the same thing as well. Sagittaria's friends, including Ivana, had done nothing other than tell her all the wonders Dovima allegedly talked about her — how Dovima was so into her, and that she needed her so desperately. They said she said they were so complete, and how they would make an adorable couple; but still, Sagittaria needed to hear it straight from her, if Dovima wanted her to believe it was true.

And so, as the weeks passed, Sagittaria strived to make a move on Dovima, to finally get her to confess her love. Because, at the end of the day, Sagittaria had been waiting for so long, it hurt; she just wanted to hear Dovima say the words. She didn't want Dovima to let her be the last to know.
