I wake up the next morning to the sound of my alarm blasting out My Chemical Romance. What a nice thing to wake up to. I sluggishly get out of my bed and glance over to my clock.

"8:15?!" I scream. "I need to be at the studio in fifteen minutes!" I dart up and run to the bathroom. I quickly shrug at the sight of my greasy hair and very unattractive face. I quickly undress and hop into the shower, the water feeling like fire on my back. I step into the bathtub and my ankle immediately begins to throb, having me stumble and catch myself on the side of the tub. It all takes me back to the awful moment I experienced five years ago..

When I was around 25, I was backstage waiting for my biggest scene. I auditioned a while back for the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy in a production of the Nutcracker. That moment could have possibly determined my career in dancing. The audience was packed, all the seats occupied with anxious looking adults ready to criticize my every move. I took a deep breath and glided my way onto the stage, beginning my dance. The lights were hitting my face so violently, I felt as if they were attacking me. A single drop of sweat fell onto the side of my face as I anxiously awaited the most difficult part of the routine. Just as I was about to land a complicated move, someone in the audience took a picture with the brightest flash I'd ever seen. It caught me off guard, resulting in me falling on my ankle, severely breaking it. In that moment, I'd felt as if my career was over and I could never dance again. In five years time, here I am, dancing in a recital tonight. But I always know, in the back of my mind, that I will never dance the same again.

I can't be late today, I think to myself. I have a huge dance recital tonight and my parents are going to be there. They haven't seen me dance since the accident and I can't mess up in front of them. I take the quickest shower I have ever taken in my entire lifetime and carefully step of the bathtub, snatching the purple towel from the rack and quickly wrap it around myself. I frantically run out of the bathroom opening up the drawers looking for what I want to wear. Okay Mari, I think to myself, you will be wearing this outfit in front of the channel and Anthony. Don't look fancy, just look casual. Oh what am I saying, just be yourself and flaunt that Attack On Titan tee shirt!

I search the drawers of my cream-colored dresser looking for my tan shirt. I finally spot it and decide to wear my black boots today. I slip the shirt on over me and walk over to the matt by my door to collect some socks and my boots to put on. I put on the cotton socks, feeling like clouds against my cold, moist skin. I pick up and untie both boots and struggle to get them on my surprisingly huge feet. I grab my keys from the hanger on my wall and grab a light jacket in case Joven blasts the air-conditioning like he did yesterday. Just as I am about to walk out the door, I get a feeling like I must be forgetting something.

"What am I forgetting?" I ask myself, looking around. I look down at my legs and notice they are bare. "God, pants Mari! You're so stupid!" I yell to myself. I quickly run to the dresser and pick out a nice pair of black jeans. I slip them on over my boots with much difficulty, realizing in hindsight that it would have been much easier and quicker to remove my boots before putting on my pants. I then take one more look around then dash out the door.
