Prologue

Ryu(POV)

Ryu(thinking): This is dead end. I have been chased by this creature for nearly half an hour. Is this how I will die in an alleyway? No, I can't die like this. I will fight this creature to the very end. I have been learning martial arts since the age of seven. I have to make it out of here alive for my family and friends.

While I was thinking this the creature dashed forward and swung it's arm to attack me. Acting on my instinct, I grabbed the lid of the nearby trash can and used it as a shield. It's arm hit the lid and the force of the attack pushed me back. I steadied myself so that my feet landed on the wall behind and using that as a launchpad I dashed forward and punched the creature. The creature was pushed back but it swung it's tail and the pointed end of it's tail stabbed my stomach. I clutched my stomach as I went down on my knees.

The creature steadied itself and slowly started walking towards me. Suddenly, I felt a bright light behind my back and saw wings emerge on my back. I was shocked to see the wings and turned around feeling some movement when I saw that the creature launched some magical attack on me. Then I heard a voice,

Voice: DIVIDE.

The attack that was coming towards me reduced in intensity and became slower enabling me to dodge it. But, my condition was still not good as I was bleeding due to the wound in my stomach.

Then there was another another light flash but it was behind the creature this time. When the light died down, I saw two people there a man and a woman. The man was heavily injured and looked like he would die any second. The creature also turned back and was now focused on the new arrivals. The creature started moving towards them when the woman fired some magical attack towards it and completely obliterated the creature. Then, the two of them looked towards me as I had white wings on my back. The man spoke,

Man: Looks like it was fate that I met you before dying.

Ryu(confused): What do you mean?

Man: Looks like you just activated your sacred gear.

Ryu: Sacred gear? You mean the white wings on my back? Is that what they are called? Also what was that creature that was attacking me?

Man: Yes, those wings are a sacred gear and that creature was a stray devil.

Ryu: What's a stray devil?

Man: Kid, I don't have time to answer all your questions.

Ryu(Looking at the man's injuries): Oh sorry, let me help you. I will get you to the hospital.

Man: Relax kid, my time is going to be up soon. There is no hospital that can save me. Please listen to what I have to say.

I nodded and the man continued

Man: My name is Zeren Valefor and I am a devil. My clan was one of the 72 pillars of the underworld.

Ryu: Devil? 72 pillars?

Zeren: Kid, I know you have a lot of questions but please listen to me. As much as I would like to answer all your questions, I don't have much time remaining.

Ryu: I am sorry. Please continue.

Zeren: I have been in hiding since the end of great war, so the underworld thinks that my clan has become extinct. I don't have any successor, so before dying I want to pass on my powers to you. I want you to be my successor.

Ryu: Why me?

Zeren: I don't have any other option right now. Besides, you are alreay destined to greatness with the sacred gear that you have. My powers will make you even stronger as my clan was one of the strongest in the underworld due to it's power. No other power can rival it.
