JULY 27THOLIVIA was having a shitty day. her producers had been texting her all day about how she needs to be writing faster, she had spilled coffee on her new white shirt, and then her taxi got taken, resulting in her now walking about a mile in the new york heat to go to her best friend irises apartment.
as she walked through the streets of new york city, she sighed. she wasn't a fan of walking around the city, but she had a lunch date with her best friend, that she didn't want to miss.
olivia pulled her phone out of her back pocket, dialing her best friends number, as she continued to walk.
"hey!" iris greeted cheerfully when she answered the phone, and olivia smiled a little.
"hi!" the brunette responded, "i might be a few minutes late! i'm like fifteen minutes away, but i had to walk today."
"oh god," iris groaned, "you should have texted me! i would have called an uber for you, or something,"
"i hate taking ubers, though," olivia responded, she didn't want to trouble her best friend, so she had chosen to walk.
"of course you do," iris said, rolling her eyes, even though her best friend couldn't see.
before olivia could respond, two people came up to her, one being a little boy, looking about 7 or 8 years old, and the other being a girl that looked her age, maybe a little younger.
"hi!" the little boy smiled, and olivia smiled back at him, removing her phone from her ear to talk to the boy.
"hi!" the brunette smiled in response, and the little kid grinned.
"i'm oliver, you can call me ollie if you want! quinn calls me that," the little boy pointed to the girl holding his hand, and olivia smiled at her.
"well, hi, quinn and ollie, how are you guys?" olivia asked, and the boy smiled at her.
"i'm really good! i listen to your music all the time! my mommy only lets me listen to the 'appropriate version' though," ollie stumbled over the word 'appropriate' and olivia laughed a little.
"your mommy sounds like a very smart lady," olivia laughed, and the other girl did too.
"this is my babysitter, her name is quinn roland," ollie introduced the girl, who waved a bit, "i was wondering if we could take a picture together?"
"aw," olivia melted, the kid was so precious, "of course! do you know my best friend iris?" the boy nodded eagerly, "well shes on the phone with me, do you want her to be in the picture too?"
"sure!" ollie grinned, and olivia smiled, before clicking the facetime option on her screen, where irises picture appeared a few seconds later.
the kids babysitter, quinn, pulled her phone out, and olivia passed her phone to the little boy, so he could hold up the facetime call.
she put her arm around ollie, crouching down to be at his height, and quinn took a couple pictures, some with flash and some without.
"thank you!" ollie smiled, and olivia hugged him.
"of course! see you guys around, maybe." she smiled, and waved to quinn, and said bye to ollie.
OLIVIA flopped onto irises couch when she entered the apartment, the other girl laughing at her actions.
"tired much?" iris questioned, and olivia grunted in response, her face buried in a pillow, "do you want anything, love?"
"water please," olivia mumbled, and iris walked to her fridge, to grab a cold water bottle.
"here, babe." iris said as she handed the water bottle to olivia, who took it gratefully.
"you're the best," olivia grinned after taking a few sips, and iris nodded.
"i know i am."
iris and olivia were watching tv on the couch when iris piped up.
"you know," iris started talking, "that girl that was taking the pictures earlier was pretty cute, didn't we watch her name? she probably has an instagram you could follow,"
olivia sighed, "i doubt it's anything big, ris. sure she was pretty, but doesn't mean i'm gonna date her."
"angel, isn't it time you got over florence? it's been 2 years." iris said hesitantly, and olivia ran a hand through her hair.
"i'm over here, ris." olivia sighed, and iris shrugged.
"i could totally tell..." she trailed off, earning a light glare from her friend.
olivia laid down, her head on her best friends lap, and closed her eyes.
"it's just so hard. i miss her." olivia admitted, and iris rubbed her shoulder soothingly.
"i know, babes. i know, i'm sorry." iris responded, and olivia forced a smile.
"c'mon, let's watch a comedy, i'm in the mood for a laugh." olivia smiled, and iris nodded, not pressing any further.
"hot in cleveland?" iris questioned.
"hot in cleveland." olivia nodded.
LATER that night, olivia was turning in her bed, she could never fall asleep anymore. she would take double the average melatonin amount, put on a fan, show, whatever. it didn't matter, she just couldn't sleep.
when she could sleep, the nightmares came. it was every night now, it sucked. olivia wasn't sure why she had the nightmares, but she did.
she wished florence was still with her.
florence knew about the nightmares, and she would always sleep next to olivia, and hug her as she cried, and comfort her, telling her it was okay, and that she loved her.
a tear ran down olivias face, but she wiped it away, like she would with her feelings for florence. eventually.
olivia got out of bed, walking to the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea.
she tapped her nails on the counter as the water boiled, and poured the water into a mug with a sleepy time tea bag in it.
olivia went back to her room, and sat cross legged on her bed, pulling out her journal and writing in it.
july 27th.
hi, i guess. ive decided to vent in this book, so i don't bother anybody with my feelings. that's probably not healthy is it? i'll ask my therapist next time. anyways, it's been a long day. i had fun with iris, dont get me wrong, she's the best friend i could ask for, but i don't know. today just felt off to me.
my nightmares are getting worse, and i really fucking miss florence. she always helped by being there, they would go away completely sometimes when she was with me. i don't know, it sounds stupid, but i miss her a lot.
i never wanted to breakup, but we said it was "mutual."
i'm starting to get kind of tired, so i'm gonna try to go to bed now. i'm going to go to a cafe tmrw and write for a bit though! i hope it goes well. i need to put out new music soon, according to my manager.
anyways, good night, i guess, and here's to me not missing florence tomorrow!
