Throughout class Bear could hardly concentrate. He could only think about Declan. His jawline, shoulders and muscles. His kindness and strength and intelligence. He was so amazing and perfect in so many ways. He would never like Bear back though, right? How could he? Maggie snapped her fingers in front of Bear's face. He jumped.
"Were you even listening? What did I just say?" Maggie demanded.
"Umm...."
"Right, that's what I thought. Pay attention!" Bear nodded and tried as hard as he could to concentrate.
Declan was having troubles concentrating too.
"What's wrong buddy? You're off your game. Oh, wait. I get it. Bear?" Kaiden said.
"What? Sorry I didn't hear you." Declan said. Declan threw a punch at Kaiden, but he missed. Kaiden launched his hands at Declan's arm and twisted it till he fell to the ground.
"I think you need some boy advice right now." Kaiden joked. "You're literally falling for him." Karter called Declan to talk to him.
"What's wrong? You have been acting strange. You're off your game."
"It doesn't matter.." Declan replied.
"Right well, whatever it is, let it go. Get back now." And Declan went off again to Kaiden.
After a while, it was finally time for lunch. Declan saw Bear looking around, trying to find a place to sit.
"Look what we have here, a lost Teddy Bear trying to find it's way back home." Declan said as he put his arm around Bear's shoulder.
"Ha ha. Very funn-" Bear began to say, but Declan pulled him to a table.
"Eat." He demanded.
"What?"
"Eat. Eat so we can get out of here and have some fun. Can't have you starving can we?" Declan said. Bear ate his food, and when he was finally finished, Declan pulled him of of the seat and Started dragging him out, to the forest. They went up into their little place together and just talked. Bear told Declan everything.
"I always knew he would die, but I never knew how. Or when. Just that he would. Yet, it still surprised me and left me in shock." Bear said. Declan soothed him. They knew they had to go back to class eventually, but neither of them wanted to go. They lay down on the perch, and Bear rested his head on Declan's chest. He could feel his slow, gentle breathing lift up his head. Declan ruffled Bear's Dark hair, and both of them sat in silence, not daring to move.
Bear sighed.
"I have to get to class." Bear suddenly said. Declan could hear the sadness in his voice that he had to leave. He sighed.
"Same. I wanna stay here together, lying in the sunlight." Declan said as he took a deep breath in. Bear got up and climbed down, and so did Declan.
"See you tonight, Teddy Bear..." Declan said and winked.
"It's not fair that you get to call me a nickname and I just call you Declan." Bear complained.
"Well, how about you call me Lord Declan, the almighty slayer of sadness." Declan joked. "Or just give me a nickname yourself. Use something in my life. Here, I'll give you some inspiration. I like trees, sport, art and seals, I have four pairs of boots that all look the exact same, I am deathly afraid of buttons-"
"Stop. That's it. Buttons." Bear said.
"Really? That? Of all things?" Declan asked.
"Yes of course. Bye Buttons!" Bear called out as he started to walk away from him. Declan chuckled and started to walk to class too.
