Amari's POV:
Lexi is understandably pissed off at me, because I was not very open with what I was doing. He hasn't spoken to me since the party, and we are now back at the mansion, since we had Alastor bring us, Paxton, Alastor, and Rita, the woman I met, back to the mansion.
He is a stubborn person, I know that, and I don't think he's going over the top. However, I just wish he'd listen to me because not hearing Lexi talk to me for almost twelve hours is scary.
Rita is a psychic vampire, someone I had read about in the books on powerful vampires. I am hoping that she can help us find Roman's real second chance soulmate so that he will be able to help us stop the tension between vampires and demons.
All I want is for my family, the one I have been welcomed into and chosen, to feel peace and be able to know they are safe. If that means befriending a psychic vampire and suffering the consequences Lexi will have set forth for me, then I will do it.
Lexi has not talked to me, but he is willing to speak with anyone else except for Rita. In fact, my soulmate is currently conversing with Kayden, Levi, and Tristan, but he refuses to look over at me. They are in the dining room, sitting at the table with multicolored drinks.
He wouldn't sleep with me last night, either.
Lexi opted for the couch, even though I offered to sleep on the couch and let him take our bed. He, of course, turned away from me and wouldn't speak.
This is the worst argument we've ever had, and we haven't even said anything to each other!
I know that Lexi is upset that I didn't share with him what I was doing and I randomly told him it was time to leave as soon as I was dragging a lady he doesn't know behind me. I don't think it's jealousy; I think Lexi is just hurt that I didn't talk with him before and he didn't get to eavesdrop on whatever mystery meeting Christo was having.
"Is there anywhere a lady can get blood around here?" Rita asks, floating out of her borrowed room.
Lexi shoots her a dirty look before he turns back to his friends.
"Kayden, can she have one of your blood bags?" I ask, and Kayden gives me a brief nod even though Lexi is clearly bitter about me offering Rita anything.
I show Rita to the blood bags and she digs into one, sitting at the bar while I stand in the kitchen and watch my soulmate who has his back to me.
"So... you need my assistance?" Rita asks, and I see Lexi briefly peek at me, only to glare and turn right back when we make eye contact.
I nod. "I need your help to find someone's soulmate, and I am aware that very few people can do that."
Rita raises an eyebrow. "You are correct. Whose soulmate am I finding?"
Lexi stomps into the kitchen and grabs my wrist, dragging me down the hallway and into our room. "You're seriously going to help Roman find his fucking soulmate?! Are you kidding me?!" he demands, his eyes glowing pink. "Does anyone else know about this?!"
"I spoke with Paxton and Renato, and Paxton talked to Alastor. They all think it is a good idea, Lex."
"Fuck you, Amari!" he shouts. "You know my fucking stance and you went and asked Paxton?!"
"Lex, it will lead to peace if we help Roman find his soulmate. We could help resolve this tension between vampires and demons so that Christo doesn't try to harm any of our people. What if he drugs you like Roman did? What if he takes you from me? I would be crushed, Lexi."
I try to reach out and hold my soulmate, but Lexi pushes my hands away. My soulmate has never tried to strike me or hurt me, so I'm not surprised when he gently pushes me away and runs off to our room. I know he's upset, but I am doing this to keep him and our family safe, and he's not stupid, so I'm sure he understands.
