Chapter Seventeen Answers:

Thursday June 24th 1690

"What do we do?" I turned to Robert.

"We can't just pass up a chance like this," Don insisted, keyed up already.

"Agreed," Robert said with a firm nod. "Move through the crowd and blend in as best you can. We need to get close to them."

Robert began walking casually through the crowd towards our men. The others and I followed his lead. We wove our way around the few people between us and them, refusing to lose sight of them. Don reached them first, catching them off guard.

"Hey, you two." Don approached. "Remember me?"

The two men turned around, looking very confused. In about two seconds, a look of recognition came about them.

They bolted down the street.

"Quick, after them!" Robert barked.

I sprang forward and was sprinting after the two men before Robert even gave the order. The two men were sprinting even harder than I was, and they were speeding out of sight. For a few older men, they could move.

"There is nowhere they can hide," called Robert. "It's broad daylight, don't lose sight of them."

I could hear Macalister wheezing. He's a strong man, but he isn't cut out for athletics. After a few more wheezes he began to fall behind.

"I'll... wait here!" He panted, falling back.

I looked back and saw that he was doubled over in the street. The few people that were around us were staring. I looked ahead and saw that the two men were getting away. I sped up, running past the staring passerby's at full speed.

"What are they doing?"

"What's going on?"

I saw that the two men were starting to slow down a little. They were getting tired, and so was I. I looked to both sides and saw that Don and Robert were still with me. Our targets veered left and ran into an alleyway.

"We have them now," I grinned.

I turned and looked ahead into the alleyway. I ran in after them. They had hit a dead end, and I had a better look at them than I did in the dark forest.

The shorter man had an unshaven, weather-beaten face with brown eyes and short, wavy black hair that didn't come down past his ears. He had a strong build but he looked small compared to his friend.

The taller man had blond hair that came down to his shoulders. He had blue eyes and a clean shaven face. He was just slightly taller than his friend and he looked a lot stronger than him.

"What do you want from us?" Demanded the short one.

"What was in that bag, in the forest last night?" Don asked without any sign of fear in his voice.

The shorter man reached under brown leather coat and withdrew a pistol.

"Take it easy," I warned, everyone having their guns drawn before I knew what was happening, myself included.

"What's your interest in that bag, boy?" Asked the shorter man.

"Our interest lies in an educated guess."

"I don't know what that means, now leave us alone. After that scene you made, the guards are likely already on their way. You'll get us all in trouble."
