Chapter Thirty One The Servants:

Monday June 28th 1690

I awoke to sunlight streaming in through my window. I saw my weapons laying at the foot of the bed. From here I could see a note written on a piece of paper resting on top of them. I read it.

Here are your weapons. Try anything and you will die before you harm anyone.

Wow. Short, sweet and to the point. I was about to go back to sleep. Turning on my side, I saw a person standing across the room! Giving a slight cry of fear, I clambered for my pistol and aimed it at him. Oddly, he didn't seem afraid.

"What the-" I cried in surprise, "who are you?"

The person was male; he didn't look much older than me, so he was about seventeen or eighteen. He was dressed in very nice clothing with patterns woven into the fabric. He had short orange hair and pale, freckled skin. He had hazel eyes and was a little shorter than me, standing at around 5'10" and had a thin build, it didn't look like he had much muscle. He carried himself in a self-respected, sophisticated manor. He had one hand behind his back and one hand over his heart. He bowed from his waist.

"Hello, sir," he said, "my name is Lawrence. I have been assigned by Queen Yuka to be your personal servant during your time here at the castle."

Oh, this guy was my servant.

"Hi, Lawrence," I said almost nervously, putting the pistol down. "You can, um, stop bowing now."

He stood back up, adjusting his shirt and straightening his gloves.

"Of course. Very good sir."

My stomach grumbled quietly, but Lawrence heard it.

"All of your friends are downstairs in the dining hall," he said knowingly. "Would you care to join them, sir?"

I nodded and grinned.

"Yes, can you take me there?"

"But of course," he announced, opening the door, stepping out and holding it open for me.

I walked out and he shut the door behind me.

"Right this way."

I followed him. When we reached the staircase, we descended and found ourselves in the grand entryway of the castle. I passed all of the roses and rose paintings, the roses' scent filled the air. I was going to ask Lawrence about the roses, but I was too hungry to care right now. My stomach grumbled again. Lawrence led me in between the staircases and turned left, entering another hallway with a door on the end. On either side of the hallway, there were roses on pedestals. We came to the door at the end and Lawrence held it open for me.

"After you, sir." He said, gesturing inside.

"You can stop with the sir stuff, I haven't done much worthy of respect in a setting like this."

I nodded to him and walked through the door. I saw all of my friends sitting at a grand wooden table that was probably about thirty feet long and five feet wide. Everyone was eating and talking and laughing. Each of the others had their own butler standing behind them. The boys of the group had male servants, the girls had female servants. The males all wore the same elegant clothes that Lawrence wore, and the girls wore dresses of different colors. The dresses were beautiful, frilly and complementary of their looks but not revealing.

The others looked like they were having a great time. On the table was a wide variety of foods. There were vegetables, breads, cheeses, fruits and goblets of wine. I walked over and joined my friends, sitting next to Robert and Don. Down the table a bit was Macalister, eating his bread. Don gave me a huge grin.
