Chapter Sixty Two A Debt To Pay:
Friday July 9th 1690
We turned our attention to Ceberus. His back was to us, so Martha turned him over, all of us fearing the worst.
"Ceberus, speak to me!" She said, beginning to cry. "Don't be dead, please don't be dead!"
Walden had come to at that point, and he flew over to Ceberus, his eyes filled with worry and fear. Just then, Ceberus's eyes opened a crack.
"Ceberus!" He exclaimed. "Buddy, you're gonna be okay, Tabatha will-"
Tabatha already had her staff up and was attempting to cast her spell.
"Come on," she gasped desperately, shaking her staff wildly. "No, it can't be..."
"What is it?" Erin cried, snapping back to reality and realizing what was happening. "Tabatha, do something!"
"He was directly hit with pure dark magic, it's cancelling out any healing magic I try to cast."
Ceberus coughed weakly, his eyes were glassy and unfocused.
"Martha, I... I love you..."
"I love you too," she whimpered, kissing him lovingly. "Please, don't die..."
Martha pulled away after a few seconds. Ceberus's eyes began to shut.
"No, Ceberus! Ceberus! Stay with me man!" Walden said frantically, hovering over Ceberus's chest. "C-come on, Alice is dead, we did it..."
Walden's words were in vain. Ceberus's eyes were half closed. He was almost gone.
"Why did you do this?" Martha demanded. "Why, why did you have to play the hero?"
There was silence for a few seconds, and I was afraid he was gone for good.
"I... I wanted to protect you, Martha, William too, and everyone else. This place has to be destroyed. What did you think I was going to do when I saw nothing else could have been done?"
Martha burst into tears, sobbing on the floor next to him. I ran the memory through my head, frantically searching for a way we could have saved him. There was none. If it wasn't for him, we would all be dead, and the mission would be over.
"Walden..."
The little fairy perked up at hearing his name, in tears himself.
"Yeah, buddy?"
A sputtering cough followed by an agonized groan.
"Consider my debt to you... repaid..."
And those were the last words of Ceberus Cole.
Just then, we heard the thundering of footsteps. Several dozen soldiers soon filed in, all armed with muskets and swords. A few seconds later, Queen Yuka and Princess Estaire walked in. Queen Yuka held a machine gun, and levelled it at us. Realizing how helpless we all were, we had no choice but to drop our guns.
"What the hell is going on?" Queen Yuka asked, looking around the room.
Her slate grey eyes fell on the bodies of the witches, and that of Alice. She no doubt saw the carnage outside. She then noticed exactly who she was dealing with.
"You!" She bellowed, howling with rage. "Of all the scum I've seen in my lifetime, you all are the last candidates I would have suspected of sabotaging my plans."
