Jada's POV
"Do we have enough gas to get to there?" I ask.
"To where?" Parker questions, turning his head to face me, a confused look on his face.
I glare at him strongly before replying, "Amberley! Remember? If we get split, go back to Amberley."
"Oh, right, yeah, I hope so." He answers with a shrug.
I really want to leave now, but of course, we can't. I really need to know if everyone is okay, but I won't. I'm getting really anxious over this and it's not escaping my mind. The only way to know is when we go to Amberley. If we make it there. If I make it there.
"Can we just leave now?" I ask him, groaning into my hands. At the rate we're going, we might as well reached our fortieth birthday before we even make it to the highway.
"One more wire. . . there! Got it," he says, "yes, now we can go." I don't hesitate as I hop in the front seat, not bothering with my seat belt, and we start our way to our hometown.
"Do you think they're alive? All of them?" I ask Parker after minutes of silence, staring at the walkers roaming yards away as we pass the deserted skirts.
"I dont know, maybe some. I dont think all though." He answers. To be honest, I don't think so either.
"What about the kids? Or our other leader? Mrs. Greene?" I say, my voice rising a little bit. keep panicking, I feel like I'm drowing him with questions.
"I dont think so, Jada. Alex is probably alive-hopefully-and Mrs. Greene, maybe." He replies.
"I hope your right," I mutter, "for all of it."
"Me too. . ." He whispers. It's really humid out, the windows are broke, so every now and then we have to open the door while we're driving. It's a big pain in the butt. "I don't think the kids made it, to be honest, J."
I don't answer, and instead keep myself occupied by facing the window and counting all the walkers we pass.
Five. . .
Nine. . .
Sixteen. . .
It's a long drive. A very long one. It takes six hours to drive to Amberley, and I'm pretty sure an hour and a half already passed, but God it feels like hours, with even more hours to come.
"Do you think anything will go back to how it was before we all split?" I ask after a while, the amount of walkers I catch sight of making my stomach unsettle.
He sighs. "Dunno."
"Well what about leadership? Or whatever we call it?"
"I dont know, Jada. What's with all these questions?" He questions me, exasperated. I look at him. I know why he's edgy, hell, I'd be worried if he wasn't. We could have lost all of our friends, and it hasn't even been long since we got released from our school and sent to our death.
"I'm worried, okay? That's why I'm asking so many questions. How can you not be scared? I want to know if my best friend is alive, and everyone else. I want answers, Parker. I need answers. I don't do well not knowing what's going to happen next without knowing whats actually going to happen." There's a silence. A very long awkward silence. I know that nobody can ever know what's going to happen because nobody can see into the future, but it is possible to know some clues.
"Well how do you think you did when a zombie apocalypse actually happened?" He shoots back. I get taken aback, but don't show it and instead roll my eyes. I know he's stressed, but he doesn't need to be such an asshole about it. I love him and all, but he's really annoying me right now. He knows I hate harshness, and as much as I want to just remain quiet and do nothing, I wanna slap him, but he probably wants to slap me back just as much.
